I took a group to Club viva Vallarta in March. It is an all-inclusive resort that just opened in Dec. It was fantastic. The food & entertainment was 1st class!!!! It is about an hour from town but well worth it. I would recommend this property to everyone.

Okay Mark and I have decided to stay at Allegro "The Diamond" Nuevo Vallarta (right beside the Sierra, where we wanted to stay first) for our honeymoon, in September, because we'll save almost $300.00 each doing so. Any thoughts? Has anyone stayed here, we'd appreciate your comments.

My fiance and I, who met in Puerto Vallarta in January of 98, are returning there to get married in December. We have been there numerous times, but are in need of some advice regarding reception sites. Does anyone have any information on this? We would love to book a place where we could cater the meal ourselves, but a restaurant or hotel would also work. Thanks!

As much as I love Puerto Vallarta, just wanted to give anyone who is planning to travel in early September a warning about the weather. My friends and I went about the 5th of September 99 and it rained from the time we got arrived until we left. There was no sun, we didn't go in the ocean (too strong), swam once in the hotel pool, shopped in the rain, and went out in the rain. It was warm just verrry wet. It might be different this year but I won't be back during rainy season to find out!

Just got back from PV. Stayed at the Tropicana (4 nights) and then on to the Hotel Rio (last 3 nights). Tropicana was great and reasonably priced for an oceanview room. The beach was nice and so was the bar just down from our hotel (Burro's Bar). Reasonable prices as well. One warning: be careful of the people selling timeshares. They act as though they are just wanting to be helpful in directions, but want you to take a tour of their hotel. That's fine as well, but they can be "very pushy" once you've had your tour and finally sit down to hear the $ figure. Once you say "no" to their prices they can be not so friendly. Just a word of advice. Otherwise, we had a great time in PV and can't wait to go again. The weather was great!!!

Just had a few moments to write since our return from PV. Had a wonderful time;-)!! Stayed @ the Mayan Palace in Nuevo 3/19-3/26. A little futher away from town, 110 pesos to Centro, 80p to Marina, but once you figure out the bus system it was easy getting around & less expensive too! Were nabbed by Sun Club as soon as we got off the plane, so for 90 mins. of our time, a $30 deposit which we got back after the tour, we got cab ride to our resort, cab ride to their resort the next day, breakfast, a tour of the Continental Plaza with a little attitude (don't need to buy, very generous parents:-), & 1/2 off ANY tours we were interested in taking. Should have done more tours but enjoyed the ones we did. Took the Tropical Tour, which gave us a good idea of the layout of the area, a chance to shop a little, lunch a the riverside rest. & Yelapa Beach that was one of the best days we spent just laying around on the beach, soaking up the sun. relaxing & drinking. If you go here don't purchase your meal as part of the package, we found the selection (3 choices) to be limited and there were 4 or 5 rest. to pick from on the beach. We ate at Mr. Marlin's. Three of us had a wonderful meal with drinks included for less than $15. Beers were 30 pesos. PV is all in what you make it. It can be loud & rowdy or it can be quite & relaxing. If any one would like more information just e-mail me & I'll get back to you. each. Found a wonderful rest in the Marina Las Palamos (downtown too) the only place we ate twice. Wasn't sure there was really going to be a rest. up that very steep hill but Ah Carumba!! had an awesome view of PV at night, food was good too & plenty of it! Found Carlos O'Brien's one afternoon & returned that evening for more drinks & dancing on the tables. The crowd had a good mix of ages (we are m47,f37 & f34) but because it was Spring Break there were plenty of college students. I work at a University but I didn't see any SRU students there!!

I have been to PVR 3 times and have more fun each time I go. The only place I have ever stayed is the Velas Vallarta but looking into other hotels this had the largest rooms and allowed 6 adults to a room.(2 bd rm ste) The Velas has rooms with full size bedrooms, kitchenand living room. This is very good with 6 girls having to get ready for the night life. Our favorite night spot was the ZOO!!!!! It played great music and was full every night we were there. The staff was so nice we even had a reserved table! As far as restaruants we had a nice dinner at Pipi's. It has the best fajitas in town and watch out for the margaritas, there are very very strong, but tastey! In the restaraunt there is a Marichi band and someone to take your picture and make guacamole right at your table. It must have costed 8 USD for a full meal. i would suggest trying it. If you are looking for a nicer place to eat, Daquiri Dicks is very nice with great food also. It is a little more expensive but has a wonderful view of the beach form your table. Overall, I have had many good experiences in PVR and plan on going again Very Very soon. Now can anyone tell me about the Marriott Casamagna? That is where we have chosen to stay this time and I know little about it. Any details would be appreciated! Thanks!!!!

Have gone into the chat room a few times and have always been the only person in there. Too bad:( I found this site to be helpful only if all you want to do is read other people's remarks or if you e-mail someone direct. I have put out two requests for information, one in January and the other yesterday and have not received a response to either. When I e-mailed someone who had asked for info before their trip, she got right back to me and was very helpful. It's too bad this site doesn't have a resident expert who could answer most questions. I found a site for Cancun that was much more responsive and questions were usually answered by more than one person. We will be in Nuevo Vallarta the week of March 19-26 and I will put an update on how we enjoyed the area when we return and if anyone wants info they can e-mail me directly and I will be sure to get back to you.

Thinking of returning to PV at Christmas 2000 with our married daughter; son-in-law & 21 yr old son. Does anyone have a suggestion as to where we should stay? We are thinking a condo would be the most economical but don't know the areas that condos are located. Only other trip to PV was last November & we stayed at an all-inclusive. Hola Amigos ! My wife and i and 5 other couples have just got back from Nuevo-Vallarta and stayed at the Club Marival-all inclusive resort. Imust say that the motel ,the food , and the staff were all very great. I must also say the weather is absolutely fabulous! I would highly recommend this resort to anyone. Also, chicos dive shop downtown p uerto-vallarta has dune buggies and puts on one hell of a good time! It is worth every penny you spend. downtown P-V is approximately 15 minutes from club marival by taxi and costs approximately 120 pesos or about14 dollars U.S. We also ate off the resort at Le-Kliff and the view is like no other in the world! The food is incredible and the drinks are cold and the sunset is breathtaking! I highly recommend anyone planning a trip to Puerto- Vallarta to consider Club Marival. The animation crew that does the nightly and daily activities are great! Can't say enough .......ENJOY !

We are staying at a private villa, Casa Guillermo in November. This is located in the Conchas Chinas area. We are trying to find out the name of the hotel or condominium located directly behind (East) of the house. We have some friends who want to come down at the same time, and there is not enough room in the house. We thought that the rental next door would be the solution, but we don't know the name of it. On one side of Casa Guillermo is Club Alexander (to the south). This rental that we are interested in, is just behind the house. If anyone knows the name, we would be grateful for that information. We just came back from a two week vacation in PV, it was our first time there and we LOVED IT !!! Truely a great experience !! We stayed at LaJolla Dimismaloya and thought it was perfect, very clean, friendly, great views, lots to do for all ages and easy to get into downtown (there is a bus stop right outside the front entrance, for 3 1/2 peso it'll take you right downtown PV) For the hell of it we checked out a couple of other south and north side hotels we had originally considered staying at, LaJolla had them all beat, hands down. Don't miss eating at the Panarama and plan to go there around sunset. The food and service was as good if not better than most places here in the Chicago area. Anyone going there for the first time, guareenteed you will have a great time, we are actually thinking of going back in a couple of months to look for more permenant housing!

Would like names of quaint eateries and clubs recommended by the locals. My dad likes to do things a little out of the ordinary so sites to see that may not be typical tourist fare would also be helpful. We would like to go on a day cruise or some type of excursion. Hi all, my girlfriend and I have travelled to P.V. 4 times since our first trip in Feb. of 98. We fell in love with the place, it has something to do for everybody and the weather is wonderful October through May. We stay at La Jolla de Mismaloya tower 2 on the beach end and love it. We highly recommend it. Romantic evenings, hammocks on the beach, palapas and tequila, lots of fun. You have to rent a jeep though it's 40 minutes to the south but worth the drive. Best, most beautiful part of the Bay of Banderas. The los Arcos formations are there and also "The sets of the Night of the Iguna" are now restaraunts at the Hotel on the cliffs over looking the Mismaloya beach and Los Arcos! Yes it has it's own private beach! Protected by hills on either side! A short boat ride to the towns of Yelapa and Oaxa! Great restaraunts i.e. Le Kliff, Cafe de Artist, Chef Rogers. The malecon, Zoo Bar! We always meet fun people and keep in touch with them long after the trip (Will and Sandy if you ever see this "escuche") Were going back in March and I find myself counting the days, surfing the web for everything and anything P.V. We love it!

My family is planning to travel to P. V in mid July. I have an 8 year old and a 4 year old. I am particularly interested in any comments/information that would make this trip the best possible for all of us--day and evening activities, family restaurants, and recommendations for accomodations. The all inclusives sound tempting, but sometimes a really nice, smaller hotel will treat a family with a little extra tender loving care. Appreciate any tips!

I just got back from PV. I stayed at the Costa Allegre. It was great except for one worker there. I did snorkelling, diving, parasailing, went to the bullfights, archery, swimming, tanning, eating. We met a cab driver that told us to ask the locals where the best spots where, so we did. I had a total blast, made some solid freinships with some local people there.I highly recomed, Thr Roxy, Chavas restaurant, NOT going all inclusive, get out and experience the diners there, Mariachi Loco. There is way too much to tell. I met a couple of local people that took us around, went dancing with us, taught us more words in spanish not to mention the dance steps, they told us all about Mexicos history, the states, they were enthusiastic guides, even slept on the beach with us our last nite there! Anyone who is interested in my stories or more rocommendations, email me please. PV put an excellent New Years celebration as well. I met tons of people from all over the world. There is so much about PV and its people that I couldnt write it if I tried, I loved it so much I am considering relocating there, and because one of the men I met turned out to be the man of my dreams. I loved it completely. Regards, Ellie

I have received several replys to my queries re PV, thanks to everyone for the usefull info. We will be going in about 6 weeks and are getting very excited. Any comments about your favourite inexpensive restaurants? We are thinking about renting a car for a day, is this a good idea? We are wondering about the money, should we rely on the ATM,are they everywhere? Should we take traveller's cheques (Canadian or American). Which boat cruises to Yelapa are the most economical. Please email me with any of your do's and don'ts. I thank you in advance for taking the time to reply. Linda

My family and I are considering staying at the Marbella Tropical Garden Suites across the street from the Fiesta Americana (it has 2 bedroom suites, suitable for a family), however because it is not beachfront we want close access to the beach. I have heard that the Marbella has facility and beach privledges with the Fiesta Americana, across the steeet, but it is very hard to get an answer from emailing the Marbella or the travel agent. I am only going on what someone who stayed there last year told me. I would like some assurance that we would have access as it is just across the street. I have heard from others that you can use any beach but the access through the hotels to get to the beach is unclear. Does anyone have any info about this or who I can contact? Thanks, Linda

My family and I are embarking on our first trip to Mexico this February. Of course we are researching different locations. We are leaning toward PV. We are a family of 5, including a 20, 19 & 15 year olds. Accomodation is hard to find for 5. We have heard from people that the nite life in PV is mostly downtown and not so much in the hotel zone. We think we want to stay in this zone. Whereas we heard that in Mazatlan the nite life is the best in the golden zone and the beaches in that zone are protected by islands and therefore better for swimming. I guess my concern is that if the kids have to take a bus to the action all the time it may be to quiet in PV for them we also want to be able to play in the surf without dangereous undertows. We want to make sure we pick the the location that has something for all of us to make this the best vacation ever. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks.

I visited the Las Palmas 3 years ago and it was lovely. Like many other hotels in Puerto Vallarta, the rooms are simple but very clean. The staff was great and the food was good as well. Here's the downside, and it's only minor. The showers were lukewarm (Could've been just our room I suppose). The beach area is a bit small for the size of the resort and chairs were scarce. If that's the worst I can say, that's pretty good. If you decide to go there, have a great time --- we did.

On my first visit to this site I enjoyed reading the comments. My family of 5 is planning our first trip to PV in Feb. There seem to be so many accomodations to choose from. However accomodating 5 comfortably on a limited budget may be a challenge. Any recommendations on beach front condo's or hotels with a kitchen.

I made my maiden trip to P.V. last January - absolutely breathtaking! I am booked for January again this year, and did so right off the plane home this year. I highly recommend a little jewel of a hotel in the central zone called the San Marino Plaza. The most amazing sunset views in the world!! I cannot wait to be back in paradise.

We visited Puerto Vallarta twice last year, we stayed at the LaJolla Mismaloya in July, and the Continental Plaza in Sept. We are also planning a 99 trip back again! PV is not the normal tourist trap like Cancun, which is more like Miami, all neon lights, not the real Mexico. PV offers both, old and new Mexico, the shops and the market are quite a adventure, with the bartering. And excellent restaurants.

Your hotel list is great but I haven't been able to print it, where to I get a printed copy or complete accomodation guide for PV? Been there before, loved it, want to spend about 6 weeks there this winter, Jan/Feb, looking for a studio apartment with kitchenette, beachfront, close to downtown, any suggestions?

Erhard Nothnagel P.S. Wir sehen uns im Januar 2000

My husband and I have visited Puerto Vallarta twice (once before we were married and the second time for our honeymoon). We fell in love with it the first time we were there. We went to some of the best restaurants. If anyone is looking for a restaurant for a truly unique atmosphere and an unforgettable time we highly recomment BOGART'S. If you are looking for a restaurant with an absolutely spectacular view then visit La Panorama (if you go make sure you ask to sit upstairs. The restaurant is two floors but the best is the top floor). I am anticipating our next trip to Vallarta which should be in the very near future. For anyone who is leary about going DON'T!! I guarantee you will love it there.
