Puerto Vallarta has a large diversity of Reef Fish one can appreciate. Visit our Puerto Vallarta Tours section for Scuba Diving tours.
El Morro is well known for its many pinnacles that rise from the floor of the ocean, full of caves and tunnels just waiting to be explored in a wonderful undersea world that streams with life. It is located aprox. 26 miles from Puerto Vallarta in the Pacific Ocean.
It lies beyond the protected beautiful waters of the Bay of Banderas. The rocks are populated by an incredible number of migratory and non migratory fish.
Chimo is the last truly fisherman village left. This spectacular dive site lies about 26 miles along the southern coast of the Bay of Banderas. Chimo has something very special to offer, besides marine life. Here the ocean floor has formed itself into to distinct and interesting formations: Torrecillasis an undersea plateau about a quarter-mile in diameter.
From this mesa-like base, a series of separate pinnacles rise like trees striving upward to gain the light. Las Iglesias (the churches), is a line of columns that rises straight from the bed of the ocean, like the supports of some ancient sunken cathedral. Chimo has tremendous variety of sea life, mainly tropical species and probably the best encounters with Mantas.
Los Arcos offers more diversity of tropical life than any other site in the entire bay. Los Arcos is an UNDERWATER NATIONAL RESERVE that is protected by the Mexican government. Explaining the large population of tropical life. If you are looking for a great and relaxing shallow dive that is sure to provide a ton of sea life... Then Los Arcos should be considered.
Majahuitas. The entire south side of the bay is made up of tiny coves that offer excellent conditions for snorkeling/diving. One can literally pick any spot along this coast line and encounter an abundance of small, tropical life feeding off the shallow reefs and rock formations.
The best spot on the south side of the bay has to be the tranquil, clear waters just off the beach of Majahuitas Cove. Shallow reefs and wall formations set the stage for what is considered a perfect start to a wonderful day of snorkeling/diving adventure. More on scuba diving in Puerto Vallarta.
