All inclusive - Buenaventura, Melia or Holiday Inn??

Post by banana123 » Thu May 29, 2008 9:25 am

We are going to PV for the ist time in September 08. For all inclusive resorts out of Buenaventura, Melia and Holiday Inn, which one will you recommend? Or should we pay about the same price for a non - all inclusive resort like the Marriot? :?

The Buenaventura. In north old town on a nice beach and short walk to The Malecon.

Buenaventura

Another vote here for the Buenaventura. I've stayed at both the Buenaventura and the Holiday Inn (all inclusive) and I like the BV best.

Buenaventura!!! I stayed there for two weeks this past March and it was awesome! Actually got married there. :D
Excellent location and excellent service. The only downfall, and this didn't just happen to us, it happens to EVERY guest, is that when you check in you're not going to get a good room. Even if you've reserved a room, you will not get it when you check in. Upon arrival everyone gets a crappy room, but you get your name on a list to be moved and the next day (two days top) you'll get moved to a nice room. Not sure why they do this; I think it's mainly because not all of their rooms are created equal. They have unrenovated rooms with a crappy view, then they have their renovated rooms with a good to excellent view. No one wants to stay in the crappy rooms, so to make all their guests happy, they cycle people through to the good rooms so that every guest inevitably ends up with a good room.

Somewhere on here is a review I wrote about the Buenaventura. I posted it here, but it must have gotten moved because it's gone. If there's anyway to do a search, I'm sure you'll find it.

"Every Guest"

Post by helenf » Thu May 29, 2008 4:35 pm

In my case we paid for an ocean front honeymoon suite and we DID get what we paid for. I know, sunshine, that you did have issues with your room (I remember your wonderful trip report :D ) But I felt I needed to say that it isn't "every guest" cause we did get what we expected.

One of the lucky ones! :)
OK, not every guest; but a lot of them. I didn't just say that based on my experience. I've been keeping up on the Trip Advisor reviews since I've gotten back and the majority of the reviews tell the same story.

But it's really not a big deal. It's a great hotel and op, you will love it.

What are you looking for? Do you want a wading pool and playground?

we stayed at melia last summer with our then 12 yr. old twins and my folks.
it was perfect for all of us - very family oriented.
this last feb., part of our annual group stayed a couple of nights at the
buenaventura - they were pleasantly surprised, said food was quite good.
(last feb. we were all in marina district and friends wanted to see melia,
so we walked thru resort just to look.
their opinion strictly based on aesthetics, size (options for food
and beverage) and available seating around pool area, they would choose the melia over the buena.
location of resort is another factor. (see previous posts)

I think the Melia is definitely rated higher then either the HI or Buenaventura - based on rooms / food and amenities . Their pool is fantastic - check their website . We've stayed at both the HI and Buenaventura and would recommend either as solid 3 star spots - kudos to HI for its beach and pool and nods to Bventura for location .
