This is as appropriate a thread as any other to post this question, when people post bond, do you get that money back at some time? I've seen people paying hundreds of thousands, or more, I've always wondered what happens to that money...
BTW, I'd rather not know people like that, but on this forum you'll bump into many like that, so you just have to get used to it (COUGH-tom-darryl-COUGH)

Mogens,
When you or someone else posts bond for you, you do get it back as long as you show up for your court date. If you are a "no show" you forefit the bail money. The bail bond company puts a lean on your house, car, bank account or other assets to guarantee the money if you do not show up for your court appearance. When you appear in court the lean is removed. Bail is usually 10% of the amount that is set by the court so $500,000 it would be $50,000 to get you out on bail. You no show (skip bail) you owe the full $500,000, plus the fee that the bail bond company charges for providing you this service.
So if this guy used his credit card, which obviously had a high enough limit, to cover his bail and then didn't make his court appearance the $$$ is on his credit card. Maybe he could not find any friends that were big enough fools to put up the money to bail him out so he had to do it himself.

Since You Asked
You sure you want to know? If you are, I'll tell you...it's a pretty common phrase where I work (I work with a lot of retired cops and RCMP)What does "pound sand" mean anyway??
Scroll down...
It's a way in polite mixed company of telling someone to f-off.

cute... funny man... cute...
so katsocal - do you have "experience" posting bond for your friends????
as for the "pound sand", Lojo likes to tell people if they don't behave she is going to take them out and "pound sand up their arse" ha ha ha and she could do it too... she may only be 5ft... but look out

Tom, I think that Kat knows about Bonds, having several family members that were and are in law enforcement.
To add to it. On many infractions you will hear them say "$50,000 Bond or $5,000 cash bond. That means if you have the $5,000 you can post it in cash and not have to use the services of a Bondsman and have to pay the $5,000 non returnable fee. Show up on a cash bond and the money is returned. Usually the bond in a major case is well beyond the average the accused is able to do on their own and therefore, the Bondsman.
I also think that the expression "Pound Sand", can also be "Pound Salt"

Oh trust me Tom, there is alot you will never know.
And to answer your question, "NO" I have never had to bail any of my friends out. Just lucky I guess, just cuz we are cop's kids doesn't always mean we wear halos and whatever we do always manages to get back to our parents in a nano second. LOL Anytime my dad looked me in the eyes and said "Is there something you want to tell me?" I knew I was busted.
