Good Food/Low Prices

Post by Counting the days » Thu Feb 21, 2008 7:26 pm

Planned our trip months ago and are coming to PV in a few weeks. We find ourselves on a very tight budget for this trip. Any suggestions for restaurants/cafes ? Thanks.

There's different spots in different neighborhoods. Where are you staying?

Will you have a fridge and stove aand microwave? If you do you can do up your own eggs and toast for breakfast, assuming you're reasonably close to a grocery store.

Anywhere in town you can get a roast chicken and potatoes and chip away at that when you're hungry.

If you want a really nice lunch at a surpisingly low price, have tapas at Los Caprichos, on Matamoros (I think).

For booze, work the happy hours, when one is two, supplemented by a trip to a LaPlaya or one of the big grocery stores for takehome.

If you want to go native, there are places that serve "comida corrida" (lit. running food) lunches with a single item on the menu but really cheap. We had "ropa vieja" once, and I forgot what it was made of but it was good.

Most restaurants outside of the hotels are cheaper than the ones in the hotels. If it's your first time, you'll be pleased at the prices.

Cheap Food

Post by marcos » Fri Feb 22, 2008 5:38 pm

In addition to several other comments, I'd like to add the following ...

The taco stand up the street from t he Los Muertos pier.
Tacos Panchos right next to Caffe de Olla.
Any taco stand where there are a lot of locals eating.
The Italian Place (can't remember the name) near the Parque Cardenas garage.
Tia Catrina
La Dianita

La Chata

La Chata de Guadalajara is another restaurant you may want to try. Great food at affordable prices. A full dinner for $15.00 and under.
Go the Restaurant section on this website and read the reviews.
