PEACE Reports Progress in Flood Recovery

Post by burchern » Thu Sep 16, 2010 11:00 pm

Punta de Mita, Nay. (Sept 16, 2010) The north side of the bay is showing a tremendous effort to recover from the damaging storms, as local non-profit PEACE, mobilizes and communicates with community leaders, schools, and other community organizations to return neighboring towns into a state of normalcy.

“We’ve seen an outpouring of generous donors and volunteers, but it takes time to re-build,” says Molly Fisher, Founder and Director of PEACE. “We still have a long way to go.”

In San Pancho, Sayulita, San Ignacio, Guamuchil and Higuera Blanca, the following basic needs continue to be a priority:

· Dry and Canned Food (rice, beans, tuna, etc.)
· Diapers
· Clothing for adults and children
· Bedding (sheets, pillows, blankets)
· Towels
· Bleach, soap
· Fans
· Shoes
· Furniture
· Tables
· Chairs
· Stoves

Material and monetary donations are being collected through September 19th and a volunteer cleanup effort is taking place on Friday, September 17, 2010 at 9:30am from PEACE headquarters in Punta de Mita.

“With the help of compassionate and generous neighbors, families will be back in their homes, schools and health centers will re-open and additional clean ups will continue,” Fisher said.
