Mexico’s tourism industry is experiencing a remarkable comeback, with a significant surge in international air arrivals during the first four months of 2024.
Data from the Ministry of the Interior reveals a 5.9% increase in air arrivals compared to the same period in 2023, reaching a total of 8.466 million visitors. This influx even surpasses 2019 figures by a staggering 21.2%, highlighting a robust post-pandemic recovery.
The United States, Canada, and Colombia lead the pack in tourist arrivals, contributing a combined 6.712 million visitors. The U.S. market saw the most significant growth, with a 7.5% increase from 2023 and a remarkable 39.7% jump from pre-pandemic levels. Canada also witnessed a healthy rise (12.3%) compared to 2023, while Colombian tourists increased by 24.3% from 2019.
Cancún, Mexico City, and Puerto Vallarta remain top destinations, welcoming over 6.2 million tourists collectively, representing a 4.9% rise over 2023 and a 17.4% increase from 2019. Other airports across the country also experienced growth, solidifying Mexico’s position as a global tourism powerhouse.
