Mexico’s cruise industry is thriving, with a remarkable 2.2% increase in cruise passengers during the first four months of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. This translates to a total of 3 million 885 thousand cruise passengers gracing Mexican ports.
Secretary of Tourism Miguel Torruco Marqués, citing data from INEGI and the Secretariat of the Navy, highlighted the arrival of 1,200 cruise ships during this period, generating foreign exchange revenue of $325.8 million, a 6.2% increase from the previous year.
The average spending per cruise passenger reached $83.90, surpassing the $80.70 recorded in the same period of 2023 by 3.9%. Cozumel and Mahahual in Quintana Roo, Ensenada in Baja California, Cabo San Lucas in Baja California Sur, and Puerto Vallarta in Jalisco emerged as the top cruise destinations in Mexico during the first four months of the year, accounting for 90% of the total passenger volume.
Puerto Vallarta saw 78 cruise ships dock in its port during the first four months of 2024, bringing in 238 thousand 471 passengers.
