Puerto Vallarta is gearing up to host the “Swim for the Whales” event once again on December 7th. This year, the challenge takes a new twist with the “Vuelta a la Bahía de Banderas en Equipos” (Swim Across Banderas Bay in Teams).
Eight of Mexico’s top swimmers will lead six teams of six swimmers each, as they take on the challenge of completing the entire Bay of Banderas in a single day. This incredible feat is not just about athletic prowess; it’s a fundraising effort to protect humpback whales and marine ecosystems in the region.
The event, announced at a press conference at Hotel Boutique Casa Velas, will see teams cover various sections of the bay. Each team will represent a specific marine conservation project, from coral reef protection to reducing ocean plastic.
Stephanie Montero Bending, the driving force behind this initiative, made history last November by swimming across the entire Bay of Banderas in 14 hours and 30 minutes, earning international recognition from the Marathon Swimmers Federation.
