Viva Aerobús Dominates Puerto Vallarta Airport

Viva Aerobús, Mexico’s low-cost carrier, has significantly increased its presence at the Puerto Vallarta International Airport in 2024. According to data released by the Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP), Viva Aerobús now transports one out of every five passengers at the airport, surpassing its previous record of 17% in 2023.

The airline’s strategic focus on offering the lowest fares has proven highly successful, propelling it to the top spot in terms of passenger volume at Puerto Vallarta. Volaris, traditionally the second-largest carrier at the airport, has seen a slight decline in its market share, dropping from 16% in 2023 to 14% this year.

American Airlines maintains a steady third position with an 11% market share in both years. Other international carriers, including Delta, Alaska Airlines, and Westjet, have experienced growth, each now accounting for approximately 8% of the market. United Airlines and Aeroméxico share the seventh spot with a 7% market share. Notably, Aeroméxico has seen a decline in domestic passengers.

Southwest Airlines remains relatively stable with a 5% market share, while the remaining carriers collectively account for the remaining 12% of the market.
