Puerto Vallarta has taken a significant step towards preserving its rich cultural heritage with the opening of a new municipal charrería school. Located at the Miguel Prieto Ibarria charro arena, the school will offer after-school classes for children and youth aged 8 to 18, starting on December 15th.
The initiative, a collaboration between local government officials, charrería associations, and the Mexican Federation of Charrería, aims to promote and preserve the traditional Mexican sport of charrería. By teaching young people the skills and traditions of this equestrian sport, the school hopes to nurture a new generation of charros and escaramuzas (female equestrians).
Classes will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and will cover various aspects of charrería, including horsemanship, roping, and traditional attire. The school is expected to enroll up to 60 students, with financial assistance available for those in need.
