Puerto Vallarta is gearing up for the upcoming sea turtle nesting season, with the local government, through its Environmental Sustainability Directorate, actively preparing to protect these iconic species. The efforts will span from June 2024 through January 2026, ensuring comprehensive support for the nesting turtles and their hatchlings.
Preparation work is already underway at the Holi beach nursery. This includes essential tasks such as replacing the sand to create a safe and fungus-free environment for the incoming nests. These proactive measures are crucial for the successful incubation and development of the turtle eggs.
Beyond the physical preparations, the Environmental Sustainability Directorate will also be launching public environmental education campaigns. These initiatives aim to raise awareness about sea turtle conservation among residents and visitors alike. Additionally, open-to-the-public turtle releases will be held once the hatchlings emerge, offering a unique opportunity for community involvement in this vital conservation effort.
