Nearly three years after Nayarit Governor Miguel Ángel Navarro Quintero officially decreed the name change from Nuevo Vallarta to Nuevo Nayarit, new welcome signage has been installed at the main roundabout of the nautical residential area this week. This move, part of a broader rebranding effort, has ignited dissatisfaction among some residents and local businesses.
The new sign, featuring “Nuevo Nayarit” in orange and blue, includes an aqua-colored whale tail design set against a newly painted grey decorative wall. The urban update also incorporates white and blue arch-like structures, visually framing the primary entrance to the development. Similar design elements have been implemented at the roundabout marking the second entrance to Boulevard Nuevo Vallarta.
This visual transformation is part of the State Government’s strategy to solidify the destination’s new identity. The aim is to bolster Nuevo Nayarit’s independent tourism positioning on both national and international stages, moving away from its former identity as Nuevo Vallarta.
