In celebration of International Tourism Day 2025, the Puerto Vallarta City Council, through its Directorate of Economic Promotion and Tourism, honored local businesses and institutions for their outstanding commitment to sustainability and environmental best practices.
Alejandra Cornejo Cornejo, Director of Economic Promotion and Tourism, emphasized that this year’s celebration focused squarely on sustainable transformation, aligning with the core theme promoted by UN Tourism. She expressed pride in the initiative, noting that it was the first time the city formally recognized companies that have invested in and maintained environmental certifications, often for several years.
A wide array of prominent organizations received recognition for their efforts. Honorees included major hotel brands such as Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa, The Westin Resort & Spa Puerto Vallarta, Secrets Vallarta Bay, and Velas Vallarta, along with the Puerto Vallarta International Airport (GAP) and adventure park Canopy River Park. Cornejo Cornejo underscored that this dedication signifies not only financial investment but also crucial protection for the environment and preservation for future generations.
In addition to the awards ceremony, the city hosted a five-day conference series titled “Sustainable Vallarta: Tourism in Transformation.” The event brought together 13 speakers across six venues, including university centers, to engage students and industry professionals with new trends and successful case studies in sustainable tourism.
