The highly anticipated Amado Nervo Bridge, which will connect Puerto Vallarta and Bahía de Banderas, is now expected to be completed by July 2026, months earlier than originally planned. During a federal briefing on March 4, the Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transport (SICT), Jesús Antonio Esteva Medina, confirmed that the river-crossing supports are finished and the project is ahead of its August-September timeline. This bridge is a critical piece of infrastructure designed to alleviate the heavy traffic congestion that currently plagues one of Mexico’s fastest-growing tourist regions.
In addition to the early completion date, Jalisco state authorities have announced an expansion of the project to ensure it handles high traffic volumes. The road on the Jalisco side will be widened to six lanes to match the bridge’s capacity, correcting previous municipal roadwork that did not meet the necessary technical requirements. This 2-kilometer-long connection is expected to drastically reduce travel times for thousands of local workers and international tourists moving between the two states.
President Claudia Sheinbaum praised the progress, noting that the bridge is essential for the region’s economic and urban development. Once finished, the Amado Nervo Bridge will serve as a modern gateway between Jalisco and Nayarit, providing a safer and much faster alternative to the existing aging infrastructure. With the tender process for the final road expansions already underway, the region is bracing for a significant transformation in its daily transit by mid-summer.
