Puerto Vallarta Downhill & Free Style 2026 Takes Over Downtown Today

Puerto Vallarta’s historic center becomes an open-air arena today, May 2, as the Puerto Vallarta Downhill & Freestyle 2026 reaches its main competition day with elite riders, high-speed urban racing, and a Best Trick showcase near the Malecón.

The two-day event began May 1 with practice sessions and course reconnaissance. Today’s program brings the full spectacle: downhill racing through downtown streets, alleys, stairways, and technical urban features, followed by freestyle action and awards. According to local tourism and event reports, the invitation-only competition features 40 riders from more than 10 countries and is expected to draw up to 20,000 spectators.

The course highlights one of Puerto Vallarta’s most recognizable visitor areas, descending through El Centro toward the waterfront. For travelers, it is a rare chance to see the city’s steep streets, cobblestone corridors, and seaside setting turned into a world-class adventure sports venue. Confirmed names associated with the event include Rémy Métailler, Kilian Bron, Jhony Salido, and Bienvenido Aguado, while the course design has been credited to international specialists Ollie Wilkins, Christian Fairclough, and Liam Mason.

Spectators should plan ahead. Temporary closures are in effect around Aldama, Emilio Carranza, Juárez, Morelos, Abasolo, Corona, and Galeana, with traffic restrictions through the afternoon and evening. Visitors staying near downtown can combine the event with a broader look at what to do in Puerto Vallarta before or after the competition.

Free, family-friendly, and highly visual, Puerto Vallarta Downhill & Freestyle adds another positive highlight to the city’s growing calendar of international events, reinforcing Puerto Vallarta’s appeal as an active, outdoor, visitor-friendly destination.
