Puerto Vallarta is entering the heart of 2026 with another sign that its tourism recovery is turning into forward momentum: the destination has been recognized as Mexico’s Best Destination for Meetings and Events at the Lo Mejor de México Awards 2026.
The honor, reported by the official tourism board after Tianguis Turístico in Acapulco, highlights Puerto Vallarta’s growing strength in the MICE market — meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions. The destination’s pitch is not only convention space, but the combination of air connectivity, hotels, oceanfront venues, culinary experiences, the Malecón, and outdoor activities that can turn a business trip into a memorable stay.
The award lands as local tourism officials point to resilient early-year results. Out & About Puerto Vallarta reported that the city welcomed 1 million visitors in January and February 2026, maintained 79% hotel occupancy, generated nearly 7.2 billion pesos in economic activity, and recorded 38 cruise ship arrivals during the same period.
That follows a record-setting 2025, when Puerto Vallarta reportedly received more than 6.2 million visitors, supported by new flights, cruise activity, additional hotel rooms, and ongoing infrastructure work including airport expansion.
The calendar ahead also gives travelers more reasons to come. The official events guide lists Vallarta SBK Dance Festival 2026 from May 7–10 and Vallarta Pride 2026 from May 17–24 under the theme “A New Era.” Restaurant Week also returns from May 15 to June 10, giving food lovers another reason to explore what to do in Puerto Vallarta beyond the beach.
For visitors and planners, the message is clear: Puerto Vallarta is not just recovering — it is competing for higher-value tourism, larger events, and a more diverse year-round travel calendar.
