Puerto Vallarta will open its first International Poetry Festival from June 15 to 21, bringing a week of free readings, workshops, music-backed poetry presentations, and cultural activities to venues around the city.
The inaugural program will begin Monday, June 15, at 7:00 pm at Los Arcos del Malecón, one of the most recognizable points on Puerto Vallarta’s Malecón. Organizers say the festival is designed to make poetry more accessible to residents and visitors while strengthening the city’s cultural calendar.
This first edition will feature 33 poets from Puerto Vallarta plus invited writers from 10 countries. Mexican poets Mario Bojórquez and Ricardo Castillo are among the announced participants, and Luis Armenta Malpica will be honored during the festival. Reported activities include a Chinese calligraphy workshop led by artists from Taiwan, creative writing sessions, children’s workshops, an open microphone, lectures, readings, and poetry with live music.
Festival director Raúl Gibran said the event will take poetry beyond traditional spaces and into different parts of the municipality. Local officials, including Councilwoman Laurel Carrillo Ventura and Economic Promotion and Tourism director Alejandra Cornejo, highlighted municipal support for the project under Mayor Luis Munguía.
For visitors staying near downtown Puerto Vallarta, the opening event is easy to combine with an evening walk along the waterfront. The full schedule is expected through the festival’s social media channels, and PuertoVallarta.net readers can also check the site’s Puerto Vallarta events guide for more local happenings.
