Uber has added Puerto Vallarta to Uber Mujeres, a ride option that lets women using the app request trips with female drivers. Uber Mexico announced the expansion on Sept. 9, 2026, naming Puerto Vallarta among 15 additional Mexican cities after an earlier launch.
Banderas News reports the option became available this week in Puerto Vallarta for on-demand trips between 6:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. Uber’s own notice says operating hours vary by city.
The first time a passenger selects Uber Mujeres, the app asks for a gender confirmation. After that, women can set a preference for female drivers on all trips under Account, Settings, Trip Preferences; schedule a trip up to 30 minutes ahead with Uber Reserve; or choose Uber Mujeres from the ride list for an immediate request. If no nearby female driver is available or the wait is too long, the app may offer the trip to other drivers or ask whether to wait longer.
“Keeping safety as a priority in absolutely all interactions with our platform, Uber Mujeres is a more comprehensive option, unique in the industry, to give our users more ways to get around as they decide,” said Cecilia Román, Communications Manager for Uber in Mexico.
The feature complements Ellas, available since late 2020, which lets female drivers choose trips with female passengers. For visitors, it is another in-city choice alongside local taxis when moving through downtown Puerto Vallarta.
