Small Bills at ATMs in PV

Post by goldloon » Mon Jan 08, 2007 8:06 pm

When withdrawing cash from ATMs in PV, what is the smallest bill available? 50 pesos, 100 pesos ?

When taking out cash from the bank machine, the amount screen appears and there are different amounts. Can we select "option" and choose our own amount, let's say 2,950 pesos? This would force the machine to spit out smaller denomination notes such as 50's and 100's ??? I know getting a stack of 500-peso bills from an ATM makes it hard to use these large bills in some stores.

Any tips on this? Thanks

When I need some smaller denominations, I take $50 or $100 to a cambio and ask for billets chicos, they will usually give you 20 and 50 peso notes.

mexibeach, according to your ticker, looks like we arrive the day before you.

We will be in a condo on the south side for 9 nights. Can usually be found around sunset at Cuates y Cuetes or sometimes the Burro Bar. Will be glad to buy you a frosty beverage.

Pesos

Post by Jennybean » Mon Jan 08, 2007 10:51 pm

ATMs in Vallarta are like ATMs at home - they only spit out bills in round number denominations. And the smallest bill I've gotten from them since 2000 is a 200 peso bill.

More often than not now you're going to get 500 peso bills. Just take them to the nearest casa de cambio or your hotel front desk and have them break them up into smaller denominations. That's what I always do and it works just fine.

And shaddap you four monthers - look at my ticker! And I had to give up my 2006 trip too so I haven't been there since October 2005!

at the new banamex bank on pancho villa
insert card half way then pull out to make your order
when requesting 500 pesos you get a five hundred peso note bill
no dominations below 100 pesos
so you want 200 pesos get 200 peso bill
you want seven hundred you get 500 and 200 peso bill
etc etc
no way of forgetting your card

buen suerte

Tres

Post by Jennybean » Tue Jan 09, 2007 7:54 pm

I'm now trying to figure out a way to sneak in a third trip maybe over Christmas. I get 11 days off from the office for only coughing up 2 paid vacation days - I really shouldn't let that go to waste.

We'll see what the peso situation is like after trips 1 and 2.
