Mexican Fiestas

Post by bmaets » Mon May 17, 2004 3:40 pm

I have a group of 22 coming down to work with children at the School of Champions (June 5th - 15th). We would like to dine out on our night off (Saturday June 12th). I am looking for a place with mariachis, folk dancers would be nice too. I have looked at the pricing on the Mexican fiesta at Krystal Vallarta but it is too expensive (I'm not saying it isn't worth it, it just doesn't fit into our lean budget) even though they offered to give a discount. Does anyone know of any fiestas in town that are $25.00 US dollars or less and still good? Or maybe a restaurant that has Marachi music and good food. I used to be a regular in Vallarta many years ago and the Mexican restaurants that I went to with my local friends were Las Jardines and Brazos, I'm not sure they are still around and I don't remember if they had mariachis. Does anyone know if Mariachi Loco is good? Our age group is about 1/2 adults, 1/4 teenagers and 1/4 young adults. I would really like for the group to experience mariachi music, it is a big part of my PV experience. Any help would be great, thanks for the time.
Peace
Laveta

as i have said in other posts, until recently there used to be a mariachi band at pipi's restaurant. the restaurant has a really great atmosphere. you won't have any problems with the food or the drinks ( banana / strawberry margarita ). they make fresh guacamole right at your table. there are probably more restaurants th fit your description as well. but this just happens to be our fav. place to get together for lunch or dinner. good luck with your gang of 22. were ever you go, you will take over the restaurant. m.m.

You said until recently, are you saying they no longer have mariachis or just that they did the last time you were there and you are assuming they still have them now. Thanks for the information on Pipi's either way.

whoops. good point. up until the last time we were there last year they had a mariachi band. it is a really fun place to gather. it used to be quite a small restaurant but a few years ago they enlarged it because of its popularity. enjoy m.m.

Mariachi Loco is quite good for a large group. The food isn't Cafe des Artistes, but it's quite edible. And the mariachi is muy bueno. Quite often more than one group playing a night.

Thanks, maybe we can go eat someplace else and go there later for light snacks and drinks, or maybe we'll just eat there we are going in more for ambiance and music than the food. Thanks for your reply.

Peace,
Sharon

You should go into old town over the bridge past The Posada Rio Cuale up to the street where Senior Frogs is located on
the right but on the left side of the street about two doors down their is a restaurant called La Iguana which hosts a very authentic
mexican fiesta, the best I've seen over all hotels in PV. My wife and I with two teendagers have been many times about two
years ago. If anybody else has been there they can vouch for it.

We also liked La Iguana.
But I want to know, what is the School of Champions? Tell us more about it.

I wouldn't recommend the fiesta at La Iguana. It is pretty bad when compared to the one at the Krystal.

School of Champions is the school built to help the children that live at the city dump. You can get more info about them at www.childrenofthedump.org

That's right. I sent an email to the person inquiring about the School of Champions. I had trouble posting because I didn't realize I wasn't logged in. I did send her an email with the websites and some information. Have you visited the school?

We decided to skip the Mx. Fiestas altogether. The ones we've looked at are a bit more expensive than our budget allows. We're just going to go to a fairly inexpensive restaurant with a great atomosphere. Something like Pipi's or El Mariachi Loco. Everyone has been so kind with great advice. Thanks.

And the food bill should not break your budjet.
