I am scheduled to arrive in PV for the first time April 24th. We are booked at Playa Del Sol for a week. Has anyone stayed there or have any comments on the Condo or location etc...? Thanks for your help. The website does not tell much.

f you are at the Playa Del Sol on Los Muertos, you have in my opinion one of the best locations to be found. We have stayed in a condo on Los Muertos for the past few years and just love it, walking distance to hundreds of good restaurants, bars and shops. The south side of Vallarta is our favorite, plus you are only about a 10 minute walk to the Malecon and El Centro (downtown). I have not been inside Playa Del Sol, but we have walked by it many times, it is a lovely building I do not think you will be disappointed.

We will just miss you as we do not get down again until the second week of May. Have a great time.

Ted is right, the PDS on Los Muertos is in a primo location and a nice facility. I passed it everyday on my last trip.

You should note however they have built a second PDS called the Playa Del Sol Grand way out at the north end of Nuevo, so I would contact who you booked with to clarify which one you will be staying at.

We stayed at Playa del Sol for a week last December. There are three buildings, or towers. Only tower A has good ocean views. The rooms are fine, particularly the kitchen facilities. The location can't be beat. It is within walking distance to everything.

Is Playa Del Sol an all- inclusive? We have friends that are looking for an all-inclusive in old town .Any suggestions? We stayed in old town for the month of Feb but didn't spend any time looking for an all inclusive.(Love all the great restaurants ) We would love to hear from you Cathi when you get back. Have a great time!!!

Playa Del Sol is a condo complex, mostly "owned" through timeshares, with a few individually-owned units that the owners rent out. All condos, as far as I know, have kitchen facilities. The complex has no in-house food service. So staying there, you can do your own shopping and fix meals as you wish, or eat out at one of the multitudes of great restaurants in the area. As far as all-inclusives in that area, Playa Los Arcos, San Marino, Tropicana and maybe Meza del Mar (?) offer all-inclusive. From my experience at Playa Los Arcoss, the food wasn't very good, although the breakfast buffet was passable. You can get a hotel plus breakfast only plan there too. I would definitely not pay to go A/I there. From other friends and acquaintances, the other hotels listed don't have good food either. So if A/I is a must for your friends, they may want to consider somewhere in the hotel zone, marina or in Nuevo Vallarta.

Thanks for the well wishes. I will be glad to post when I return. We love to take pictures so hopefully I can add to that site, too.
No all-inclusive there. We will shop/cook and explore the restaurants. I assume there are grocery stores around. Any suggestions with that?

I've stayed AI at the San Marino. Not worth the extra cash with fantastic restaurants surrounding you within spitting distance but the hotel is clean and the staff are good - they have an excellent coffee shop facing the beach with great pastry and free refills. If you stay there ask for a Junior Suite/Ocean View...the balconies are huge. Meza del Mar is a very inexpensive AI that seems to be very popular with the nationals. I don't know anything about the food there, but for the price if you didn't eat more than one meal or snacks there, I think you'd be fine. The location can't be beat and I understand each room has a small fridge that is stocked with beverages (like a hotel cash bar). There is a required $7USD per day propina at the MdM that must be paid each day, just FYI.

Cathi, not far from the Playa del Sol is Guitirrez Rizo, which is an okay grocery store (they have a good selection). To stock up in your condo I would also consider a taxi ride into the hotel zone to Gigante or Mega or even Sams Club or Wal Mart. The new Mega store has an amazing bakery and deli.

I'm a big fan of Rizo's. It's a large 2-story supermercado with bakery, produce, canned good, paper products, toiletries, juice, liquor, dairy, magazines, books downstairs. Upstairs kitchen, plumbing, school supplies, linens, dishware, toys, gift wrap department. You could walk there in probably 10 mins. and there's always taxis waiting at the exit door to take you back to the condo. I've never made the effort but from others realize the Sams Club, and other stores north of town have better quality fresh foods available.

Also on Olas Altas (street behind your condo) there's several Six (corner stores) if you need beer, juice, liquor, ice.

For Tim, my best advice for your friends is Old Town + All Inclusives don't mix. Playa Los Arcos, San Marino Plaza, and others mentioned are available but I have *never* heard a good review food-wise. Encourage them to stay in Old Town on their own with loads of reasonable and nice places to eat and drink, or instead out in The Marina or Nuevo at a resortish-resort if the A-I part is important.
