Jalisco airports continue to exceed pre-pandemic levels

During last May, the Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta air terminals reported growth of 1.3 and 35% respectively, compared to the same month of 2019.

Guadalajara, Jalisco. After overcoming in 2021 the collapse suffered by the aeronautical sector due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the international airports of Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta registered an increase in passengers of 1.3% and 35% respectively, compared to the same period of 2019, before the health crisis.

According to a report from the Pacific Airport Group (GAP), during the past month, the Guadalajara terminal mobilized 1.3 million passengers, while in May 2019 – before the health crisis forced the confinement of the population at a global level – the air terminal served 1.2 million people.

Meanwhile, the Puerto Vallarta International Airport moved 489,000 passengers last month, while in May 2019 it served 362,200 travelers.

National tourism
In the case of Puerto Vallarta, the main tourist destination in Jalisco, the considerable increase in national passengers stands out, even above international travelers.

According to the GAP report, during last May the Vallarta terminal mobilized 255,900 international travelers and 233,100 national passengers, which represented an increase of 25.2% and 47.8% compared to the same month of 2019.

According to the concessionaire group, in the month of May 2022, GAP’s 12 Mexican airports registered an increase in total passenger traffic of 13.7% compared to the same month in 2019.

The airports of Puerto Vallarta, Tijuana, Los Cabos and Guadalajara presented growth of 35.0%, 32.6%, 27.2% and 1.3% respectively, compared to the same month of 2019.

According to the GAP report, among the factors of the increase in passengers, the opening of new routes such as the Guadalajara-Las Vegas route of Frontier stands out; Puerto Vallarta-Santa Lucía (Mexico City), by Aeroméxico; Spirit’s Montego Bay-Philadelphia and Frontier’s Kingston-Miami.

Likewise, it highlighted the volume of seats offered that during May 2022 increased 24.3% compared to the same month of 2021. The load factor went from 77.1% last year to 81.9% in May 2022.
