Darn. As usual, Jenny beats me to it!
I'm pretty sure La Piazetta is the restaurant you are looking for. On a corner, at Olas Altas, down near the beach.

I would leave the laptop at home (unless you need it for work or something?) and use any of the MANY internet cafes. They are literally all over town and they are very cheap.

Hotel Eloisa
Thank you for the report. I have been guiding people away from Eloisa lately for precisely this reason. I really like that hotel and hope they can survive the unfortunate distruction of the park, in favor of a parking garage. Even once construction is complete, I'm worried it will hurt them. _______...

It's your call, but I wouldn't go to a timeshare presentation for anything. Vacation time is too precious. That said I have never done organized activities that cost a lot of money, and I have a fantastic time on PV... every time!

Breakfast I usually eat at Fredy's El Tucan or Memo's Casa de Hotcakes on B. Badillo. Breakfasts there are between 40 to 75 peso, depending if I only have banana pancakes(!) or also have fresh OJ, coffee, or an omelette instead. So with tip 5-8USD. I specifically remember a lunch price at Cafe de Ol...

budget is impossible to predict. you could get by on $30USD per day or could easily spend $200+... just depends where you hang out, how much you drink, the kinds of restaurants you go to, shopping, excursions and activities, etc. most places on the south-side (Old Town) you will find to be gay frien...

tourist information
Here's another good general tip. You can get great information after you arrive: 1) There's a slick magazine called "Vallarta Lifestyle" on sale at stores. Buy one of those. 2) There is an english-language tourist newspaper you can find for free at internet cafes and restaurants. 3) There is a touri...

hey chuck, you don't like a question, don't answer it. i think we need to realize that there are some truly new posters who may not be savvy with using "search" on travel forums. or have spent as much time on forums as some of the rest of us. getting scolded by a regular is hardly a good welcome her...

You need to figure out how much you want to be in and around town vs. just laying on the beach. Staying all the way out near Bucerias would definitely NOT be my cup of tea. Why not stay in Old Town (i.e. south-of-the-river)? That's where most all the clubs and bars are located (especially gay ones)....

I can't think of a single thing, that if you forget, you can't fairly easily buy in Puerto Vallarta. On purpose I wait and buy a straw hat, suntan lotion, beach towel, etc. each year. Well I guess you don't want to forget anything personal or prescriptions: passport, money, prescription meds, prescr...

I'm not famliar with current ownerships, but have always liked the location and general feel of what is now Mercurio. I stay next door at Casa Andrea so walk past it every morning. It reminds me a bit of a Posada de Roger kind of style. Authentic and intimate. The Torre de Oro building being a high ...

peso
Just get some peso and use them. It's easy and more polite (just my opinion). You can get peso by changing money at an exchange booth (they are everywhere) or using your ATM card and withdrawing direct. Your maid will appreciate it. Plus if you spend any time in downtown, shopping, restaurants, take...

The Malecon is a "must-do"... any night is fun but weekends most lively. It is a seawall promonade running along the edge of El Centro. There are the bronze statues, benches to sit on, likely to find music, food vendors, artists selling sketches. It is a favorite for local families and tourist alike...

I do walk alone both day and night, all over town, but stick to the busier streets in the heart of downtown at night. I'm not disagreeing that there is crime somewhere in Vallarta, just I have never seen it or felt in danger myself. I've been to PV 16 times and stay on the south-side. The area menti...

I would definitely not bother packing snack foods into PV with you. Why drag crackers all the way from home to Mexico? Everything you'll want is available at most any supermercado there. Depending on how far north you are going, you might want to stop in town at Gigante or somewhere before heading o...
