There are different styles - many are like the one shown, while some are like you've described. You can see in this picture several floating around at Yelapa - one in the middle has a canopy and looks a little bigger than the others. http://www.puertovallartatours.net/images/yelapa/new/watertaxi2.jpg

Re: snorkeling
I've been beach snorkeling on the south shore 2-3 times near Playa Conchas Chinas and Playa Gemelas and found plenty to see. Saw lots of sea life off the beach at Las Caletas as well. I mentioned Las Caletas, but didn't count that as beach snorkeling because you have to take a boat to get there. I ...

Snorkeling isn't as good as the Caribbean, of course (Puerto Vallarta has no coral reefs, and the water isn't as clear as there), but you still get visibilities in the summer that approach 100 feet. Considering most snorkeling is done at 25-30 feet of water, that's sure plenty. The water in PV is gr...

Although heavily advertised, the canopy tours are a blast - try Los Veranos, you'll have a great time. Some not-so-well-known tours are: SantaMaria, a new boat that goes to Los Arcos for snorkeling, then Las Animas and Quimixto. They also do a night cruise. This one will probably be fun for you. Ger...

There aren't many tours to choose from to San Sebastian - you essentially have a plane trip and a bus trip. There is only one company doing each as far as I know. So you only have one option of each - if you see more, it is probably just another tour agency selling the same tour. You can take a wate...

We did the ATV Jungle Trek - It did pass through these areas, but you don't stop there. You go up along the banks of the Rio Cuale, get some panoramic views of Banderas Bay and the Sierra Madre, stop at a beautiful riverside restaurant for lunch, and a swimming hole next to a palapa bar, but I don't...

Great post, Trev - especially about driving a stick and the extra clothes. Try as I might, I never could get the white t-shirt I wore on the dune buggies white again - the mud spots wouldn't come out! The bandanas seemed sufficient to me, but a word of advice - the closer you are to the front of the...

The boats aren't the best, but the crews try very hard and the tours are quite good for the money, I think. We did the Princess Yelapa earlier this year, and we were very impressed by the crew's hard work to keep it fun and to be entertaining, and they gave a very interesting little tour of Yelapa. ...

Case in point - check this article out by the London Free Press, titled: "Hurricane John Lashes Puerto Vallarta" http://lfpress.ca/newsstand/News/International/2006/08/31/1788805-sun.html According to them, they reported this story actually from Puerto Vallarta too. I guess it's not just the America...

Still calm, no rain at this hour. Should hit between 10:00AM and 12:00PM. The size of the hurricane has shrunk now, though the eye is still carrying 125mph winds, and Puerto Vallarta is now expected NOT to get hurricane force winds. There is only a 3% chance now. They're expecting sustained winds of...

The Outdoor Adventure has only one zip line compared to 15 for Los Veranos, 12 for La Vista, 11 for El Eden, and 10 for Rio Cuale.. J and S, I much appreciate your info. We've only done Los Veranos, loved it, and planned to do either Outdoor Adventure or Veranos this Oct. As much fun as the rest of...

Re: Book in advance or play by ear?
1) Yes, it is cheaper to book online in advance. You normally will save at least 10% over booking at the hotel. Of course, this varies depending on which site you book with. 2) Actually, the opposite is true. You will have a much wider variety of activities to choose from online. Every tour in Puert...

Re: sailing to yelapa
was wondering if anyone has ever chartered a sailboat to take them to yelapa for the day....we took regular boat from the pier last year and thought this would be an interesting alternative...there would be about 6 adults....is it very pricey???? You can estimate $450 for a half day charter, $650 f...

No, only a very few walk (and I do mean walk) down the beach. These rides are extremely slow and go up the tourist-laden beach, then back down. You can likely rent these horses on the beach at your hotel, but it sure did look boring. Great for kids, I suppose, like 6-12 years old. Much like pony rid...
