Photos taken at the Velas Sunday 10/27. Also some from other parts of town. Talked to someone who has been to the Zoo already.

Latest Hotel report, direct from PV
I have cut and pasted this report from another board. It was written by a woman who is a resident of PV. Should provide answers for a lot of us. Here it is: I know that I will probably be missing some hotels but here goes a brief rundown on what I know: NUEVO VALLARTA - I am not going to list each h...

Well, I would guess that if you spoke to the staff, unless it was via ESP, that the phones are indeed open.

Hey, Helen. I've read similar things. The overreaction and sensationalism is a way of life in some circles. I'm about to sip a little Tequila Reposada in honor of my beloved Vallarta myself. Cheers, salud, prostovia, down the hatch.

Zocalo
Oops, forgot to comment on this. The Zocala is the town square. If you're familiar with the downtown area, its just south of the government offices and across the main drag from the ampitheatre, kitty corner from Hooters. And I don't know specifically about the Zoo, but a lot of the business across ...

Re:Hurricane Kenna
I agree that further north, outside of Bahia Banderas, there is most likely the strong possibility of a great deal of destruction having taken place. I simply don't know; this is an assumption only. Most of these communities are basically at sea level and don't have the protection of the bay. My com...

Re:Hurricane Kenna
Chaos? War zone? Oh, come now. CNN, etc. show only these isolated sensationalist shots to extract the exact reaction quoted above. Yes, there was damage. It was a nasty piece of Ma Nature's show of force. But most of the damage was from the tidal surge and not the winds. Anyone that thinks the sky i...

Re:found a great place to eat
Señor Pepe is the pricier one up the hill with the great view. Pipi's is the raucous one just up from Carlos O'Briens. Ask any cab driver. Don't ask at the so-called "information booths". These are staffed with people whose sole intent is to hook you into a tour and presentation at a resort, usually...

Re:Hurricane Kenna and Mismaloya
Capt Jack spoke with a PV resident who drove down to Mismaloya and reports that, of course, the highway was driveable, the beach palapas were washed away, and that the water was up to but not OVER the sea wall at the hotel. That sounds like good news for you. The airport re-opened last evening.

Re:Exchanging money
I have heard the same thing from many people: that place at the airport has the best rate. The American Express office usually has an excellent rate, also. They are on Abasalo, up the hill from the Hard Rock Café. The rate at the little cambios (store front exchanges) is usually a little less, and t...

Re:Weather in February??
Weather in Feb is, in a word, perfecto! Low 70's to mid 80's and sunny every day, 60's every night. Rain is very rare, though not unheard of. You may want to take along a light jacket or sweater for the evening but probably won't need it.

Re:Exchanging money
$30 fee on $1,000! That is just insane. And then you're going to be carrying around how many thousands of pesos in your pocket for a week, or whatever, ready to be dropped on the floor, all or part of them, the first time you have that one margarita too many that puts you over the edge? Take travell...

Address de El Torito
It is at Ignacio L. Vallarta #290. I.L. Vallarta is the street that is the one-way going south across the river. On the right about 5 blocks past the river. During the NFL season, they will have every game on, different chunks of tables facing various TV sets. Loud, fun and reasonable prices.

Re:BBG /Sungetaway
I just read elsewhere that someone talked to someone who had just returned from there and that, apparantly, it has become a Hedonism Resort, complete with sex in the pool, room-and-mate swapping, etc. This comes to me 2nd or 3rd or 4th hand, but if you have inadvertently booked this place and are no...

Re:Buenaventura Hotel
We have stayed at the Buenaventura many times. Its 2 biggest assets, IMHO, are its staff (great, efficient, friendly bunch) and its location (only about a 5 minute walk to the Malecon, the beach-edge "boardwalk". We have a trip report posted on another BB. Go to [html]http://pub69.ezboard.com/btodop...

Don't want to freak anybody out, but, technically, it is unlawful to remove anything from the beaches in Mexico. I would assume that this would include the sand up your shorts. Just a word to the wise.

Re:Hacienda Hotel & Spa
Candi, wish I could tell you first-hand, but I can't. The Beach Club is about 20 yards off from the Hotel Buenaventura. From what I've heard, its just a place with bartenders and beach chairs. Can you use the BV's pool? Don't know, but why not. Food? Don't know. but maybe. They can always get it fro...

Re:Hacienda Hotel & Spa
OK Candi. The Hacienda Hotel and Spa used to be called the Hacienda Buenaventura. The Hacienda Hotel and Spa is owned by the same people who own the Buenaventura, and they also own the Premiere. I cannot review the Hacienda Hotel and Spa, I haven't stayed there, but I can give general impressions an...
