Air Fare watch -- Continental
I just have to share this. Others might want to check their carriers for ticket price fluctuations. We usually bide our time before booking, waiting and hoping the fares will go down. The usually go up, and for us that usually means between $680 and $730 (with fees and taxes that latter is nearly $8...

traveling on a budget
In general, just avoid the flashier places (Bogart's comes to mind. So does anything at the Marina). Not so much to be cheap, but because they're not worth the $ and there are more pleasant places. My standard suggestions are Los Caprichos (sp) for a tapas lunch (It's up the hill from Planeto Vegete...

Los Caprichos
I want to put in a plug for a wonderful little tapas restaurant. Los Caprichos is at the corner of Iturdibe and Miramar (I think). We went there three years ago just after they first opened, and we were thrilled to see last week they´e survived, even thrived. It´s worth the hike up the hill, or trea...

If you mean the Tequila Tour in Pitillal, and you know nothing about tequila, it´s probably worth going for the mini-education and the tasting. They used to have a relationship with a very nice little gem of a restaurant across the street. But they´ve apparently bought out the restaurant and the foo...

Another Mayan Palace Trap: Art Gallery
Art Gallery on Iturdibe, between Juarez and Hidalgo. Angeles y Demonios. We dropped in and looked at the art for a while, but laughed and left when we started getting the come on to Mayan Palace. We don´t know if it was the owner or a renegade employee, but it sure taints the place.

After a spending a week with us in PV, a buddy of mine made up a T-Shirt with 'No Gracias' on it. It got a lot of laughs from TS people, but one cleverer than average asked how much I wanted for it. Not for sale of course, even though it's worth about $5. The biggest laugh was on the plane going home.

We too are at Los Tules and we pop over to FA now and then. It seems like a nice place. We never considered the Marina; just not to our taste; it's a little too antiseptic for us. Why go to another country if all there is is high-rise hotels and restaurants? The Hotel Zone has the hotels on one side...

Never been there, so I can't respond one way or another about the place. If you say "Mayan Palace" to PV regulars, they may wince visibly. Here's why. About three or four years ago they turned loose their timeshare people, in plainclothes, on every corner, in every restaurant, in every bus, in the s...

Thanks, Keith, for chiming in. I tried to explain the multiple ownership to someone in a private message but I didn't do it very well. That's a shame one person reported the accommodations were way below standard. We have two weeks in one of the front buildings, older than most of the beachfront con...

If you like really really good but not overly fancy food, Red Cabbage is a must. Just a tip: Unless your Spanish is pretty good, write out the address on a slip of paper. Not all the cabbies know it. Make a reservation too. The phone book in your room will have the number. Try the Frida's Dinner, or...

Los Tules
Heading there in 4 days !!!!! We have a two-week time share there and we love it. If you're negotiating and they mention buildings A, B, or C those are non-beachfront, but we like the wide-open interiors so much that's where decided to go every year. Los Tules is a beautiful mellow place. At the mai...

night weather
It's usually just perfect in March, a pleasant breeze but not cold. Away from the Malecon or the beach, it's actually pretty warm at night. We usually wear the same clothes as during the day: shorts and a T-shirt. Do bring one pair of long but light pants and one light long-sleeved item just in case...

Don't know if this will catch you before you go.Yelapa isn't for everybody. We spent a few hours there a few years ago. Not impressed, and actually a little put off. But we just went on a whim, with no insider information. I'd urge getting some details to see if it matches your tastes. Hora feliz, S...
