Re:Best place to exchange $$$
Also, the lines at the banks can be long, especially from 2 P.M. until 4 P.M. That's when most workers in Mexico take their lunch break. Besides the usual banking activities, locals also go to the banks to pay things like utility bills and property taxes. The biggest crunches are near the end of the...

Re:Buying property in PV
Hey Sky, Don't let your wife read this! You can hold off a few more years on that reitrement, if you want, because PV has lots of available women of all ages. You don't necessarily have to be young or have youthful looks. It's true, but I'm just joking in your own happily-married case, of course :-)...

Re: probably a dumb question
Hi Leigh, For some strange reason, the message board would not let me post this reply under your original message. I understand your apprehension, but you won't have any problem at all finding a taxi in PV: they are almost everywhere! In the downtown area, they usually line up their taxis on certain...

Re:Buying property in PV
Hi All, Just to expand on Randy's comments: Gender is not the issue. Under Mexican law, foreigners cannot directly own land in Mexico which is either 50 kilometers from the coast or 100 kilometers from an international border. For these cases, you either need to quickly marry a Mexican, or go with t...

Re:Just Curious - what are your thoughts on Tipping?
Hi Anni, I am from the U.S., but my wife is Mexican. The Mexican culture is a wonderful one, but it is sometimes complex for me. So, I am always making cultural mistakes. The good news is: after 8-years of marriage, I don't make nearly as many mistakes as I used to. I must be learning something :-) ...

Re:Just Curious - what are your thoughts on Tipping?
Although tipping in some situations seems a little strange at first, I generally enjoy doing it also, if the person really deserved it. Sometimes the recipient delivers a genuine heart-felt thanks. The wierdest feeling for me is when I return to the U.S., after several months of living in Mexico. I ...

Re:Just Curious - what are your thoughts on Tipping?
Hi Anni, You have some valid points, but you'll probably agree that the issues to be solved certainly aren't easy ones. I haven' t spent as much time in Mexico as you have...just enough time to form some opinions (which are quite possibly flawed). I usually tip well for good service, when customary,...

Re:Just Curious - what are your thoughts on Tipping?
My thoughts: In a country where the minimum wage is 40 pesos per day (a little less than $4 USD per day), your tip will make a big difference in helping to support the recipient and his/her family. This is especially true in PV, where the cost of living is higher. Many work very hard for their incom...

Here are the TelMex Internet Yellow Page listings for the company. This doesn't add much information, except for some telephone numbers. My wife and I have eaten at the Lindo Mar restaurant many times. The view is great, as Randy said in his post (...as Randy said in his post ). The sandy beach area of the Lindo Mar is small (especially at high tide), but it has a certain charm with it's big boulders that extend into the bay.

Re:Children's Refuge in Puerto Vallarta
Also, Every year in PV, usually in February, there is a very nice fundraiser for the Refugio. It is held a place called Casa Isabel. There are lots of people to meet and the excellent hors d'oeuvres (had to look that up in a dictionary) make it worth the price of admission alone. I don't know any de...

Children's Refuge in Puerto Vallarta
Alright! Now is my chance to plug my favorite charitable cause in PV: the "Refugio Infantil Santa Esperanza" ( http://www.refugioinfantil.com/ ). This children's refuge, which is run by Catholic nuns, receives very little money from the Mexican government. Most of the operating costs are paid throug...

I have eaten at La Dulce Vida six or seven times. I have never had a bad experience, although I think their calzone lacks any inspiration. I ordered it once and it reminded me of just a big, fat ham sandwich with cheese. Normally, I order the anchovy and black olive pizza. It's a little salty, as yo...

Hi Randy, If you can read Spanish, the Mexican Customs website is at http://www.aduanas.sat.gob.mx/AGA.asp?Q=FolletosPasajeros It says that foreigners arriving by car can bring in merchandise worth up to 50 US dollars, per person (includng minor children), without paying import duty. If the same fam...

Re:Beware of the PVR addiction!
Ok MM,
Maybe I do have a PV addiction problem, but it's just a LITTLE one
Actually, I'm dying to get back down there. I haven't been to PV since just before last Christmas, and the year is more than halfway through. I must be suffering from extended withdrawal symptoms!
