Re:four digit pin numbers
Hi Ted, I received a notice from Bank of America a while back that said they would start charging $5 USD per transaction for international ATM transactions made after Nov. 19, 2004. This charge even applied to checking your account balance through the ATM!!! They went on further to state that the ch...

I spotted another COLCHORAMA store in the Puerto Vallarta "Hotel Zone". It is in the same area as the Burger King,Office Max and Blockbuster Video stores. The COLCHORAMA store is behind the Blockbuster Video store and two doors down from a Subway sandwich shop. Doesn't sound much like Mexico, huh?

You can checkout the big collection of activities here on the board: http://www.puertovallarta.net/what_to_do/index.php Maybe they would like to go on the Canopy tour, where one can view nature up at the tree-top level. There are also snorkeling trips to different places around the bay. If your kids...

Re:Cigar shops
I hope that this doesn´t sound too much like a commercial plug, but my neighbor in PV has a popular cigar store on the southside of town. I don´t smoke, but it looks like an interesting place to visit. They have professional cigar rollers on-site to make your cigars to order. Here's some info that I...

Hi Sue, Most of the beds down here consist of a mattress on top of a wooden frame. The box springs that one often finds under the mattresses in the US/Canada are not so common. There are a number of stores around town that sell new mattresses (or colchones, in Spanish). In addition, they also sell t...

Here's a small tip if you bring a U.S. car into Mexico and your U.S. state (i.e., New Mexico, Georgia, North Carolina, etc.) only issues license tags for the rear of the car: Get some kind of decorative plate for the front of the car. It doesn't really matter what it is: a souvenir plate or somethin...

The ironic thing is while we are trying to practice our Spanish, the locals in PV are probably trying to practice their English.

Important read for Bank of America ATM customers
Hi All, I received my latest monthly statement from Bank of America. On the first page was an item of interest: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Effective November 19, 2004. there is a new international ATM fee. However, as a preferred customer, we wai...

Re:Gifts
That's a tough question if you don't have a particular person in mind: young/old, short/tall male/female, etc. Brand name products from the US/Canada are well recognized in Mexico; but as far as clothing goes, there are so many sizes. The only idea I could come up with would be some kind of simple d...

Re:Arriving by cruise ship
Hi Traycee, Unless you are into walking about 4-5 miles, you will probably want to grab a cab and head to downtown Puerto Vallarta. There you will find find most of the shops, open markets and restaurants which cater to visitors. The cruise ships arrive at the Marine Terminal on the north end of tow...

Re:TIme zone??
I don't know what the daylight savings time situation is in Mexico these days. When it was first implemented in 1996, it wasn't popular with all Mexicans. Mexico tracked the time changes alongside the US and Canada for a few years. Then, I remember talk about some states in Mexico trying to adopt 5 ...

If you are staying in Puerto Vallarta, the time will not change for you since it is in the Central Time Zone also. If you are staying in Nuevo Vallarta, to the north of PV, you will be in the Mountain Time Zone (or one hour behind). The time zone changes when you drive across the Ameca River to the ...

Re:Aeromexico?
Hi Bob, Aero Mexico is a quality airline. I have flown on their planes many times. They code-share with Delta Airlines, so if you book a Mexico flight with Delta, there is a good possibility that the flight will really be on an Aero Mexico plane. In fact, I have sometimes found it advantageous to ch...
