Emperador
I've stayed there a couple of times. Once, we had a room facing the street in from of the hotel (Ampapas?) that was kinda dingy and musty-smelling but clean. Another time, I stayed with a buddy of mine and they gave us a room in the satellite building across the street. Decent room and clean. The th...

Well, first off, Los Tules is not downtown or south-side ... it is located in the north hotel zone. That having been said, Los Tules would be ideal based upon the requirements you set forth. It is quiet, laid back and the grounds are outstanding. It is only a short (20 minutes or less) bus ride to d...

I have never heard of such a plan. but depending upon your needs I'd suggest the following. The Fiesta Americana is right across the street from the Gigante, a very large supermarket. You can purchase a small cooler (or bring a collapsible one from home), ice, beer, booze and mixers at the Gigante. ...

Just remember that whatever you find may not be up to NOTB standards. This is especially true with single-family homes. The place we bought was unlivable by my NOTB standards ... but that family that owned the place raised 6 kids there and it was just fine for them. But to meet our standards, we had...

When we stay at the Emperador, we just walk up to CyC's and spend the day there. Since we know all of the waiter anyway, they always take care of us and don't particularly care whether we spend a lot or a little. Since we drink very little during the day anyway, our total bill comes to under $100 MX...

Having gone thru the same thing 2 years ago I sincerely with you the best of luck. If you're looking for a single-family home (as opposed to a condo), I doubt that you can find anything w/in walking distance to the beach that you won't have to completely rehab. The home we purchased is in Colonia Ar...

Beer on the beach
From the Emperador, if you head north for 1/2 block, the street turns right and right at the corner there's a 6 Tecate store (I think it is 6 Tecate) to buy beer, snacks, etc. FYI, 6 Tecate is like a 7-11. There's also a set of stairs down to the beach just as the street turns. As I recall, once you...

To AI or not to AI
I've never taken an AI vacation but I suspect that Jennybean is correct in her "you get what you pay for" comment. Sue and I have taken about 6 cruise vacations (AI on water?) and I can guarantee that "you get what you pay for" is valid in the cruise industry. All but one of our cruises have been on...

To AI or not to AI
Well, I'll put in my 2 centavos worth as well. Personally I would not do AI here in PV. Perhaps in other areas of the world like the DR or Jamaica where you might not want to venture outside of your hotel but not here in PV. I agree that the choice is a personal one ... some folks like to know exact...

Well. it is 3 minute walk to CyC's but it sure isn't a 3 minute walk to the Malecon. So I guess it dependsd upon what your (or their) definition is of "downtown". I've stayed there about 3 times ... always in a "hotel room" as opposed to one of their "suites" that have an ocean view. Once the room d...

To AI or not to AI
I think that AI or not really depends on the people. For some, the AI choice is good because they know exactly what the vacation will cost. Since AI includes all the food you can eat and all the booze you can drink, if you're someone who likes to eat a lot and drink all day long, AI would be great. ...

Food Costs
Sue and I budget about $100 per day for the 2 of us. We usually eat breakfast (cereal and fruit) and lunch (sandwiches) at the condo. I suspect this costs usless than $10 per day for 2 people. For dinner we go out, but not to fancy places. We go to places like Machis, Las Margaritas, Sr. Sweeney's, ...

Hole in the wall places
Tacos Pancho (I think that's the name), just next door to the Cafe de Olla is a real hole in the wall. Real authentic tacos. I love the ones with meat, pepper strips and a cream sauce ... almost like a mexican version of Beef Stroganoff. Machi's BBQ (although not a hole in the wall) is always one of...

Try Los Tules
Although I am a big fan of the South Side, I owned a time-share at Los Tules for 20+ years and I really like the property. You're right across the street from the Plaza Caracol shopping mall and the Gigante grocery store so shopping for groceries is a breeze. Plus, you're only a short bus (or taxi) ...

Trundle Beds?
When we relocate to PV, my wife wants to furnish our very small guest bedroom with a "trundle bed". It is a "daybed" with a "trundle" underneath that raises up to the height of the daybed, thereby providing a full size bed big enough for 2 people. For some reason she prefers this to a sleeper sofa. ...

Making an offer on Real Estate
As a Real Estate agent ... and as someone who has purchased a place in PV ... there are anumber of things that you should attempt to find out before making an offer. 1. Who are the sellers and why are they selling? Someone who is "motivated" to sell because they need the money are more likely to "di...

PV Real Estate Prices
As with all Real Estate, the price is controlled by (1) location, and (2) condition. While prices in El Centro and Old Town are through the roof, there are still places available in the sub-$100K range in some of the "outlying" areas. And I don't mean Bucerias and further north or all the way down s...
