'Scattered Thunderstorms'

Post by JPSenior » Fri Sep 01, 2006 5:34 am

So.
Weather.com says there will be Scattered Thundershowers every day for the next forecasted 10 days.

What is a scattered thundershower like in Puerto Vallarta / Neuvo Vallarta in the early weeks of September?

It still appears to be pretty warm - at least to Canadian standards.

Should I be bringing slacks, rainjackets, etc? Should I skip on the beach gear?

Really looking forward to the all inclusive bar pools =)

I guess I should add,

Is there a 'Calm after the Storm' effect, considering Hurricane John?

Hi JP: Even with scattered storms it will be hot and humid at this time of year. Last time a hurricane went through the area by the next day the weather was back to normal. Normal at this time of year means hot, humid, scattered storms - it's the "rainy" season, but they come and go fairly quickly and shouldn't have a big effect on your holiday. Bring your beach gear and forget about slacks unless you need them to wear to a nice restaurant. I hope everything goes well.

September rains

Post by hurricaneshecky » Fri Sep 01, 2006 6:22 pm

I spend two weeks in PV one September and it rained every day. A typical day is as follows:

8 am - bright and sunny
12 pm - cloud build up and intermittent sunshine
3-5pm - overcast with thunder clouds developing
5pm - 12 pm (or later) - le deluge

This was the pattern except for one day where it rained all day.

Rain

I should also note, don't make the mistake of assuming rain in PV is going to be like rain at home in Canada. Not even close.

It's warm, like bath water, and when it's in full on rain mode it comes down in a deluge. Leave the pants at home, pack the shorts or you'll sweat to death. Humidity this time of year usually hovers in the 80 percent range.

I'm sure there will be plenty of sun to contend with. The rains in the rainy season seem to niftily coincide with happy hour...go figure.
