So wondering....should a person take a tour here or just travel here on your own?? We were possibly going to stay overnight but thinking maybe we would just do a day trip.

there is a lot to see - Joe and his crew at the Hacienda can point you in the direction of personal guides for the day or other options for self guided tours, etc.
The town seems to me like a great place to base camp for several days...that's my next trip there!

We are staying downtown. I wouldn't mind hooking up with a couple of people and hiring a private guide.

there is another place down there that does the guide thing I believe, maybe the hotel you are staying at can point you in the direction.
It is a small town, but might be good to make plans ahead of time.
It is a very very very laid back pace in S.S.
