Horseback Riding Tours

Post by JennyB » Thu Mar 04, 2010 8:07 pm

Hellooooo! from a first time forum user :)
My 13 year old daughter is an avid horseback rider and I would like to find a tour that would be fun for her but could also accomodate first time riders such as myself, my sister in law and my 9 year old neice. Any suggestions?
Also, do you normally book online before your trip? Or wait and book at the hotel?
Thanks :)

Horseback riding

The 2 larger stables with great reputations are:
Rancho El Ojo de Agua and Rancho El Charro
They both have websites and email
Rancho El Charro also has a booth at the cruise ship terminal
Our favorite is Rancho Paso Ancho with FERNANDO as your guide.
There are several independent operators in a small town
Reservations can be made with Marilyn 228-0889 or at her booth near
Daiquiri Dicks.
If the avid rider just wants to get on a horse by herself we have seen
nice horses at 8am on the beach in front of the Buenaventura Hotel
or late afternoon on the Beach in front of the Krystal Hotel. Whatever they ask for, offer half and she will get a nice 1/2 hour ride while you have coffee or a cocktail. You are better off contacting the stables direct as Apple, Funjet and the hotel concierge all wants a piece of the action.
Not a bad idea to get on a horse here in the states before you go on a 3 hour trek in Mexico.

Of the two tours previously mentioned I highly recommend riding with El Rancho Charro. If you daughter is an experienced rider she will be able to get a horse that will give her what she is looking for. Pamela had the best horses IMHO of all the Horseback riding tours in PV, I used to own my own horses and rode alot. She has horses that are suitable for all levels of riders and the horses are very well cared for. You can view her website by googling El Rancho Charro.

Best Horses in Mexico

Post by RobR1 » Wed Apr 21, 2010 7:12 pm

I have been riding since 1954 all over North America, the Caribbean and a provider for a retired racehorse and IMHO Fernando has the finest trail ride and horses in all of MEXICO!!!! You will not be joined with 20 other inexperienced riders from the cruise ship here.

I notice that the previous posts are a little older. I was wondering if anyone has tried this tour: http://youtu.be/81odht26gsc

It seems really great for the first time rider! :D

I like the Rancho Compo tour, have heard nothing but great things about it. The horses are well cared for and it also gives you lunch, swim time and a hike. Check it out under the tours tab on this website.

Rancho Charro is also excellent if you are looking for a shorter horeseback riding only tour. Their horses are beautiful.
