The daughter and I (57 and 71, respectively) beach-walked from Los Muertos beach to and through the several small cove beaches of Conchas Chinas, as far south as Lindo Mar and back, on four, separate mornings during the last two weeks of May (when she was down staying with us).

We left our hotel in the city's south side each morning about 8:30am, and walked to the southern end of Los Muertos beach via various streets, then onto the beach itself in front of Vallarta Shores. From there, one walks south and up a small set of stairs, and then down over the other side to the first of several small beaches in the coves along the way. We walked the various paths, trails, beaches, and streets as far as the La Playita restaurant at Lindo Mar. Stops were made along the way south each time, to enjoy the sights and sounds, and then on the return walks, we stopped at some beaches to "play in the surf", and enjoy the same sights and sounds up close and personal.

It was high tide conditions when we did these walks, so areas of beaches exposed were at minimum at such times. Under lower tide conditions, much more beach (sand) is exposed. But what we had, was enough for us to see and enjoy, and on two mornings, we were treated with heavy surf and crashing waves - a real delight to watch and experience so close to its force!!

The small cove beaches in this area of the south coast are very pretty, offering great spots to catch the sights and sounds of the waves, birds, swim, and/or just plain relax and enjoy the serenity. The walking is not difficult, but there are a few small areas where one must walk through rocks and the like to get from one end of a path to another. Care must be taken in such areas not to twist an ankle, but not much more than one does when navigating some Vallarta sidewalks and streets!! I chose to wear beach croc's - they were handy to slip on and off along the way. She wore croc flip-flops. I believe my choice of footwear afforded a bit more protection.

A lovely area, scenic and very walkable, with some very pretty and quiet beaches - offering a nice change of pace from the 'action' of Los Muertos, and other beaches locate within Vallarta. We sure enjoyed our times down there!!

What great news! I recently booked to stay at Playa Conchas Chinas for next February and was hoping to get a review of the walk into town along the beach--sounds wonderful!

It is possible to walk the beach from the Marine terminal all the way to Lindo Mar. You have to wade through the Rio Pitallal and scramble over the rocks at Las Palmas. You also have to time the walk past the south side of the Sheraton. And you need to escape to the Malecon from El Centro to past the Rio Cuale.

But it is a very doable beach walk. When we do the whole thing, we take the bus back.

There is another hike from Upper Conchas Chinas to El Nogalito through the jungle. It takes 3 hours and involves passing through several barbed wire gates. Wear long pants, good shoes and take bug spray,

The courtesy shuttle from the restaurant will take you back. It was on my bucket list.

So what you are saying is that your are tresspassing on private property that is fenced off to keep tresspassers out?

No it is public property but is used by the locals for grazing their animals. We met one of the goat herders who helped us find the trail.

Definitely not for the feint of heart! Nor anyone who is obese. One of the gates has a u-shaped section where slim adults can pass but not 4-legged critters. So don't take a big dog either!
