First of all, I'm so glad to have found such an active forum on PV! Thanks for maintaining such a neat online community!
My wife and I are considering traveling to PV during the first or second week of June. We'd like to stay at a non-all inclusive hotel, but I'm having a lot of difficulty figuring out which one and thought I might solicit this group's advice. Here's what we're looking for:
1. Near the beach (I'd like to be able to hear the surf at night, if possible)
2. Nice views (ocean is not absolutely necessary, but would be nice)
3. Near the restaurant/bar area of the town
4. Air conditioning
5. CLEAN
6. Between $75-$100 per night
Other things that would be nice, but not mandatory:
a. Balcony with Hammock Hooks
b. Pool
c. On site bar/restaurant
Also, are there any maps available for the area (such as Mapchick's Can-Do Maps for Carribean Mexican Beach cities)?
Thanks so much for helping us with our first trip to PV!

Victorgator,
We have only traveled to PV once and stayed at the Tropicana. It is right on the beach in the Romantic Zone area of town. Easy walking distance to little restaurants and shops. I think that the Trop would meet all of your requests.
My wife and I love to travel but have never travelled to the same spot twice. Someday the Trop will be our first return trip. Love PV, love the Trop and it's location.

have to agree, for seaside in old towne, the trop. (or san marino)
are perfectly positioned.
another great resort (ai or ep) is velas vallarta, near airport,
impecable service and great food, great pool, also many restaurants
in marina area - look online for timeshare owners looking
to rent their condo - usually much less expensive than
booking through resort.
should be able to rent whatever and wherever you need in august.

San Marino plaza could be a nice place for you. I ´ve stayed there and It`s close to everything in the old vallarta and the best beach. The food is not very good so don't get the AI , there are plenty of nice bars and restaurants around. It is cheap, has nice pools and comfortable rooms nothing fancy. If you go to other luxury hotels in Nuevo you will need a bus or a cab if you wanna go to where the best restaurants and bars are.
