Hi Andy. Jennybean's advice is really sound. If they put you in a room you don't like, just relax, and they will change it as soon as one that you will like becomes available. I found them so accomodating. I think that if someone complains in a real pushy way they tend to frown on that and that may account for some slow service.
I found the beach the beach in the hotel zone to be fine. I walked every a.m. and sat out every evening to a beautiful sunset. It is not a nice as beaches up the coast, but hey that what exploring and day trips are for.
I didn't go to any restaurants around the hotel, because we always ate downtown. Most of the restaurants around the hotel are in the big hotels and were quite pricey. There are some smaller ones but none that I can recommend.
