I really recommend dining at the family-run authentic El Fondo Patio. It is only open in the afternoon, and is located north of downtown in the Versalles area. Take a taxi there, unless your hotel is really close to the Plaza las Glorias. It is 2 or 3 blocks north of the main avenue (Avenida Mexico) on Calle Francia.

Note here that the menu is a little larger than the editor describes it on that web link. The grilled meats are so tasty. Very fresh corn tortillas. The salsa on the side is also wonderful. The customers are practically all local Mexicans. Extremely inexpensive. The food is prepared in a very clean setting. We drank the ice in the aqua fresca juice and everything was fine.
