I guess I'll just have to move on to planning my next vacation and scouting out the related message boards where I can then turn around and gratuitously trash the place, just because I enjoy doing so simply for the sport of it.

Thanks again for escorting me on my fascinating, albeit temporary, journey through message board land. Consider me appropriately re-educated and re-programmed. I will see myself out now. :D

Well, thanks Nearly for your posts and comments, all experiences are useful, not only for those that travel to Puerto Vallarta, but in Mexico and maybe even elsewhere.

Personally I have had no issues in Vallarta, I do find the TS booth an insult, but when you consider the amount of money that pours into the economy through that business, well, then you start to understand how things are done in the world (consider other examples, Wal-Mart, Monsanto, etc.).

Different people have different levels of tolerance to issues, in my case, when on vacation I actively try to avoid taking anything seriously and it works well as far as I can remember.

Greetings

Mogens

PD: I separated the IP issues and related to a separate thread so this can keep on track.

I have to say that with my last visit to PV (I returned home a month ago today) I heard other people talking about the taxi drivers scam where they no change. I had one pull it on me and made him wait while I went inside and got change. I still think the taxi's price increases have far out weighed the price increases of everything else in PV since we bought our condo 6 years ago. They have more than quadrupled since then.

My friend just returned from a trip to Cancun and they apparently no longer allow the timeshare people in the airport.

Many people (a number of my friends here in St. Louis) are going the AI route because they just want to lay on a beach. They don't want to be hassled by time share sharks, they don't want to mess with taxi drivers and they just want to have a nice dinner close to home. They just want to relax.

We love PV and can't wait to get back there. All of the above doesn't bother me, but I can see why a lot of people don't want to mess with all of that. To each his own.

My husband won't go back to the Bahamas because our experience there was about like this guys experience in PV.

Sorry you had some bad experiences. Thank you for your post. Information and experience is always helpful to others perusing the forum. I had never heard about the tip problem before so I'll have my eyes a little wider and wiser for that.

It helped that you included that you are Latino, speak Spanish and have been to Mexico before as otherwise there may have been more comments.

PV is so beautiful that maybe you should give it another chance. You didn't say where you stayed. If you enjoyed the area, give it another try. San Pancho is just north of the bay and much more laid back and just as (if not a bit more) beautiful. Maybe you'd prefer Nuevo Vallarta in an all-inclusive for an experience less cultural than the hustle of downtown.

Couple of things that might or might not help to bring the discussion back from the personal level

I've finally learned to flick off the TS types: No eye contact, I mumble No gracias, not cheerfully, and if possible I use unwitting gringos to run interference. (It helps to have grown up in the NYC area)

I won't get in a cab unless I have my own change, or something close to it. And you can negotiate beforehand and still have the driver say something else when you get where you're going. We prefer buses anyway. They're cheaper and bigger.

Finally, about the board: tough opinions seem to get harsh responses. You gave what was for you an honest report of your experience, and a good percentage of what you got back was backtalk, as if your experience was something less than genuine. I feel it is legit for people to report they're experience was different from yours, but compounding your bad experience with scoldings just shouldn't happen. So to the extent I'm taking part in this conversation, you have my support. Like Kcowan, I've been places I won't go back to. Key West, for instance, was a disappointment and if I went on their board and said they had lousy margaritas and mediocre restaurants I'm sure somebody would say the margaritas and restaurants are perfect and there must be something wrong with me. Human nature I guess.

Wishing you a long life so you can have many vacations and the not-so-good ones fade from memory.

The whole no change, no small bills, every time I go to PV is some sort of conspiracy I tell ya, it's just not right...

I LOVE PV and don't care about the murky water and the less then stellar beaches but I also thought that as a forum you could voice the good AND the bad...I got pretty ticked off at a cab driver mysel who ripped me off after negotiating a price and then as soon as we loaded my friends luggage charging me more.. I think it was the only time I have actually yelled at a local!

Not every place is for everyone. and I cannot believe how intolerant this board has become to negative opinions...Come on people....not EVERYONE is a PV lover!!! I am but I can appreciate this town is not for everyone.

I tend to see life the rose colored glasses PLUS I also don't speak spanish so don't always know when someone is taking advantage...Then again when I travel to PV I like to make sure I'm not on a tight budget. I tip rather generously and have found that for some reason the staff really likes me...LOL..

Can't wait for my next trip to PV!!!!

What I want to know was why was this post resurrected from last Sept? It was all hashed over then for 3 days and then it died,as it needed to, there had aleady been enough finger pointing as to who says/thinks what. Now here it is 3 months later and it is starting all over again. Sometimes I think people don't look at how old a post is before they decide to add to it.

I really don't think it was intolerance of the OP's opinion as much as it was the title of the post and the OP's chosen posting name that people took issue with. As the last poster said, PV is not for everyone, but then neither is Hawaii or alot of other places in this world that people like to travel or live. Everyone has a right to their opinion but part of being an adult is taking responsibility for what happens to us when we have those "Duh, guess I should/shouldn't have after-the-fact moments".

I think this post needs to be put back to bed so it can go back to sleep.

I'm sooooo out of the loop...Dang...I'm kind of scared to say anything actually...Who knows who I'll offend...Then again...I'm going to be 50 on Friday...Do I really give a s**t????

Smitty,
Is that oversized spoon going to fit in that pot you are trying to stir?

the post was resurrected because it can be. people are free to comment on any post on here regardless of the date, or has that changed as well? this board for me is very helpful at times, but it does at times come across as a overly sensitive posse of friends that will strike back at you if you type something that does not meet their approval. there are new people to this site everyday, if they want to inquire about something that was brought up 2, 6, 9 or 12 months ago, who cares. nobody is forcing any of us to read resurrecting post, if your that bothered by them, don't click and read.

Really, maybe you should re-read what you just posted again then. You just totally contradicted yourself .

i guess i have contradicted myself (i don't see how), but if Kat says I did, then I must have. i was under the impression that this was a forum that was open to discussion on any new and old posted topic, i must have read the rules of engagement wrong. i shall go to my room and not come out until I can fully understand the process of "posting on PV.net". sorry captain!

Kat, let's not go back and forth. I apologize if I have offended you, it was not my intention to do so. i very much appreciate the valuable information that you, as well as the others have contributed here. i, myself have found all of your input very helpful. Have a fantastic holiday season and I look forward to learning more about PV from you and the others on here.

My first thought when I saw this thread was going again was "What the ??? How come this is going again???" Then after I read the first couple posts resurrecting it...thought...ok...no problema I guess...if people feel they can contribute and it picks up again , who cares?

And why would we care if it gets resurrected?? Moreover...why complain about it? Sheesh...time for me to disappear for a month or so again...

Buffett,
I have to say I could not understand what the problem was. To my knowledge we have never met and we have never had any negative interaction before in any posts. Just chalk it up to the stress of the holidays, economy, etc. I hope your Holidays are merry.

AND MANY MORE :) They are good for you. Statistics say those with the most live the longest!

p.s. dont let the dogs out! whoof whoof whoof hahaa!

p.s. those who say they are willing to meet you halfway are usually a poor judge of distance
