I'll bite...what IS "the party line"? (You'd think I'd know this as a moderator of the board...but alas...I do not.)

Not another word shall be said by me on this subject in case I say something against the party line and get jumped upon. Sorry. Chuck... 8)

Thanks again for escorting me on my fascinating, albeit temporary, journey through message board land. Consider me appropriately re-educated and re-programmed. I will see myself out now. :)

Now why do I get the feeling :? nearly_scammed that you know your way around message boards just fine...

Did they claim to not be familiar with bulletin boards? Why ARE all you people ripping into them so much...sheeesh....they had some bad experiences and shared them...so what???? Posting drivel like this only exaggerates the "problem". So...let me give you a vehicle for sharing what's really on your mind...What is your point in making your post?

And speaking of knowing your way around boards...isn't it time you started using the "Quote"button, instead of typing it every time? Just wondering why you don't EVER...

Much better now that I see you've found how to use the quote button after only 4400 posts. Congratulations! You must be quite proud. BUT...you didn't answer my question. What is the point of your previous post? Or can I have a try at answering my own question...if you don't wish to answer?

I apologize to everyone if I'm too "mean" sounding. I just get real tired of watching the bandwagon roll by and people feeling obligated to add their two bits worth and jumping on it. And here's a classic example of it (jumping on the bandwagon) below.

Ok, this is really going to show my computer illerateness, but cant more that one person have the same ISP address? I mean, exactly what does it mean when there is one ISP address for multiple people? I thought it meant that several people, in the same geographical location were using the same internet provider, such as Comcast. Chuck... 8)

First off...you're going to call the RCMP about a bulletin board located in Mexico???? Have WHAT investigated??? Think about that for another second before you really start to piss me off with threatening me, and before you sound even more idiotic than usual.

Secondly, maybe you think you don't know chance, but perhaps you actually do? I'm under no obligation to tell you what anyone's IP Addresses are or have been, just as I wouldn't ever share yours openly with anyone. In fact, it's beyond "under no obligation"...it just won't ever happen.

I can tell you this though, that 49 of chance's posts came from the exact IP Address that you have had before. They change, and I don't have the time nor the inclination to give you lessons in computer networks, but you can rest assured that the "chances" (no pun intended) of the two of you having shared the same address for 49 posts is far less than the chances of winning the lottery. Just because someone says they're from Calgary makes it so? I think not. I have NO idea where you live, nor do I care. Is it POSSIBLE that two people in the Alberta area that post on the very same bulletin board had the same address for a while? Sure. Is it plausible? Not at all.

No one has accused YOU of anything Plus4. Why are you so paranoid? Please refrain from threatening me again. I'm not trying to make you look bad, you do a good enough job of that all by yourself. As for me being mean...well...we are what we are, I suppose.

EDIT - I replaced your IP Address that you posted with "x's", as you really shouldn't advertise it in public.

There are a couple ways in which people can have the same IP Address. 1) When you connect to the Internet from a home network, or a work network, all the PC's / Laptops etc. will share the same address. Typically larger companies have "static" addresses - meaning they never change, it's always the same IP Address. Some smaller companies and most homes have what are called "dynamic" addresses (DHCP)...meaning they are given to the routers by the ISP for a period of time (lease time). If the router remains plugged in and there is periodic PC use, the IP Address even though it's dynamic, could in fact remain the same for a significant length of time.

2) When a person's IP Address is released by their ISP, is goes back into a "pool" of available addresses, to be given out to another customer once THEIR address is released. So, if person "A" has 10.10.10.10 (bs address!) this week...maybe next week they have 10.10.6.12. which used to belong to person "B".

You can't have two people in two different physical locations AT THE SAME TIME with the same address...ever.

Now..here's the "rub". At first glance, you can read the above and think "Well..gee, it sure sounds quite possible/plausible that two people might have had the same address at one time or another...", and at first glance you'd be correct....until you factor in the exact same bulletin board..that expands the odds in and of itself, now factor in the size of the address pool (the actual amount of available IP Addresses that an ISP can dole out to its customers), and we start approaching the lottery odds I was mentioning. I can find out the approximate amount of addresses that her ISP has if you'd like? I'm sure it's in the thousands by the way...

Does that help explain it a bit?

It does help explain, thanks. Another question/observation. When I set up the new account here as "Popcornballs", I did it from the same computrer and ISP as "Charlieb". Yet, two different, although similar, ISP address were used. How Come? And if you click on my "IP", you will see numerous ISP addresses, although I walways use the same computer and same ISP. Just wondering. Thanks. Chuck... 8)

I explained it above. Your IP Address will change periodically even with the same ISP. What will not change is the first couple numbers in the address.

As an example, you could have 64.54.127.145 for several posts/days/weeks, and then it may change to 64.54.127.121 for example. Note that the first three octets remained the same, as those are unique to your ISP...not you! Sometimes the third octet will change as well, in the example above, "127".

If you turn off your computer all the time, or turn off your home router all the time, then your address will change more often.
