Given that PV is probably your favorite place to vacation in Mexico, where else would you go in Mexico to vacation and why?

We love Vera Cruz as a vacation spot but not so much in the depths of winter, when the climate is not as good as on the pacific coast. But if you go any other time of the year, it is spectacular and a very fun place to visit. Inland we like Guanajuato and San Miguel.

Marvelous Mexico

Post by smitty » Tue Dec 26, 2006 11:27 pm

We almost had Isla Mujeres instead of PV this trip . A small island off Cancun - we were there 10 yrs ago and still think it was one of the prettiest places in Mexico we've ever seen. We'd like to return before it gets over developed.

I'd love to take the Copper Canyon train and investigate that part of Mexico - but Isla Mujeres first. :)

As a non-beach destination, I'm a huge fan of San Miguel Allende :D

The Riviera Maya is my second choice, anywhere south of Playa del Carmen.

The large resorts carved out of the jungle on the pristine sugar white beaches. You can't beat the blue color of the water and the sky. The mayan people are also very proud and friendly and fiercely independent. The food is a little different from vallarta also.

Playa del Carmen is a really nice town to walk around in with lots of fine resturants and upscale shops.

I do prefer PV but when I can't find a good price I will book on the RM without hesitation.

Thanks to all of you so far that have posted a reply. Some very wonderful choices indeed. My wife and I will be checking out info on these possible destinations for a trip in the near future.

You highly recommended Isla Mujeres. This must be a beautiful place. I'd like to be there too before it gets crowded by tourists. Can you suggest what's the best time of the year to visit the place?
thanks

I never tire going to Cancun. I love its hotels and the many activities my friends and I can do there such as swimming with the dolphins and scuba diving. Really a fascinating place! I'm just sooo happy that the incidence of swine flu has been lifted from Mexico already thus everybody can enjoy this beautiful vacation spot once again:)

Magnificent Mexico

Post by smitty » Mon Jun 01, 2009 7:11 pm

I'll have to echo the posts of Chuck and Sylvia . We just jumped on a deal to a deluxe resort outside Playa del Carmen - Air Canada flight - AI- 4 1/2 stars . We paid (taxes included) - one week in mid June - $650 Cdn each . Normally at this time it would cost over $2500 Cdn each .

We still plan on visiting PV in Jan .
