Then there must also be a genetic factor too, Mexicans are generally very happy and positive, it sure comes as a surprise, knowing Denmark as I do, to hear them so happy, they are always very reserved and serious (until they get some drinks in), good to see they are happy despite appearances :-) You'd expect Canadians to be happy, as would be the case of New Zealanders too... maybe it's more a factor or inner harmony, or beer... yeah that could be it, beer is the connecting principle.

Skål!

Nice to see Canadians happy...I am :) and thankful to live where we do..

Some years ago Bill and I had the privilage of meeting Denmarks national hockey teams coach's wife..

The coach was from Saskatoon Sask.... :)
I chatted with this gal and asked many questions about their lives in Denmark..
What this lady said was how safe she felt in Denmark..She said that one good leave a pram outside of a store..baby or goods in it and all would be very safe.. This coaches wife loved Denmark and the people...

:-)4 to Denmark and the other very few Countries that made the list :)
just a humble :D

They interviewed the Danes on 60 Minutes and the common theme seemed to be that they had modest expectations and so had them met more often.

It could be the calvinistic approach to life. But then again it's better to be a materialistic pig, and destroy the world in the process. In any case, I think modest expectations are not the reason Denmark is the pinnacle of civilization and social justice.

A couple of surprises.
Mexico is ranked low like the US.
Ireland is ranked high.

No surprise when it comes to Mexico and the US regarding peace, it's just that Mexico doesn't participate in outright wars, except maybe the drug issue (which again is US related).
