65,000 expected
in PV for mega-concert
Approximately 65,000 people are expected to attend the
Jalisco Vive 2009 free concert headed by Alejandro Fernandez
on Saturday, June 20th
.
The authorities have been holding meetings to establish
logistical and security measures, as well as contingency plans,
medical services, authorization of permits, installation of access
ramps, etc. Plans include closing off streets to traffc and cutting
down trees that may affect spectators’ view of the main stage that
will be set up near the seahorse statue on the Malecon. Also to
be taken down: the Voladores de Papantla post and the lamppost
that would be right in front of the stage, as well as the benches
on the Malecon from Mina to Zaragoza streets.
A perimeter will be established for the production crew as of
the 17 of June, bordered by Galeana, Juarez, Corona, Morelos and
the Malecon. In order for the necessary barricades, video screens,
audio towers and such to be erected, Morelos will be closed off
at Guerrero Street from 9 p.m. from June 19th to 21st

I would have to say I question how much of a lift PV got from the concert.
What the locals knew from the beginning is now coming out. The concert was funded by one of the political parties to promote tourism/or a political agenda? The locals money is on the political agenda. Given the fact only that TeleVisa was the only station allowed to record it, and thus it will not be able to be distributed by anyone but them the benefit to tourism in PV is questionable and remains to be seen.
Add to that a concert set up where once inside you were not allowed out to use the bathrooms without being denied re-entry. If people got there early to be guaranteed entrance and stayed for the entire conference they were there upwards of 9 hours with nothing to drink and no bathrooms. Then there were the families being split up (kids from parents, men from women) and some not being able to get back together for the duration of the concert. The only people who had acceptable conditions were the people who could afford to pay the outrageous prices being charged by the restaurants close enough to have a half-way decent view of the stage, bathrooms and food and drink for their customers.
It was pouring down rain, two boats sunk from the winds and high waves before the harbor master ordered all the boats back into the marina.
All in all, I don't know how much benefit it really had for PV.
