Movie reference???? Maybe something Monty Python? I'm missing the posts, even if they are few and far between. 😏

The spammers have been certainly been having fun here.

It makes it hard to post when there is nothing but spam on here everyday.

I'm a big fan of eggs, bacon, sausage, spam, baked beans, ham and spam.

After all, "there's not much spam in it."

It is possible to limit things in the settings. For instance the best would be to let people register but not allow their posts to be displayed until you view it and see what they have posted.

I did that on two of the boards I operate for different organizations (same board software), and that shuts them down quickly. Of course that means that the moderators have to be on line at least once per day and actually go into the admin settings.

These spammers usually are the same group... they're not totally stupid... once they realize their posts aren't shown they stay away.

Seriously, the spam is getting so bad, (entire pages of payday loan crap) that it's not even fun to come here anymore.

It is time to go play somewhere else boys and girls. We complain about the spam, yet look at some of the ads that are obviously allowed and posted on this forums front page.

*
500$ Low Apr Cash Advance No Credit Refused. Fast and secure. Paid over 3 months. Apply in 5 min.
*
No More Payday Loans Consolidate Payday Loan Debt FAST! Storefront & Online Loans Accepted
*
Need a Personal Loan? Instant Approval, Low Rates. Find Top Personal Loan Lenders & Get $ smarterbs

And the other day there was one for Russian Escorts or brides or some such thing. Super relevant to PV aren't they.

In my opinion, they all appear to be welcoming those with something to scam or sell and one breeds the other.

I pretty much ignore the ads at the top of the page, I realize they help fund this board.

BUT......I agree the SPAM has gotten out of control. It is at a level that is beyond Chuck sitting here all day to monitor it, I know he has other things to do besides trying to keep the spammers off the board.

If the ability is there to dump posts into a hold mode it seems like that would be easier and more manageable to control.

Mogens........is this doable?

Back online

Post by webmaster » Wed Aug 15, 2012 7:29 pm

Hello victims of spam...

I am back online after moving to Denmark, I'll now be able to respond to spam attacks faster. I cleaned most spam today in the morning, it was quite a dose.

The phpbb version is old and needs to be updated and even with new versions it's not so easy to control spam, mainly because phpbb is not user friendly when it comes to installing modifications that help prevent spamming.

Let's see how far we can get with this version, if not I may consider closing the forum down or maybe move to another framework.

Denmark is great! BTW :-)

Greetings

M.

It's permanent

It's permanent and as Denmark is not part of the eurozone, there's not much I can do to correct the dumb buggers ;-)

Now a trip to Vallarta will be a great excuse! :-)

Looking at how housing is built here, winter's must be fun. When you go out you have to dress accordingly, or you might just freeze to death or get eaten by a polar bear... ;-)

Greetings

Thanks Kat,

Yeah, big jump, a bit scary and certainly prone to all kinds of surprises... got to get a job soon too... that's even more scary. Have to see how we can squeeze a trip to Vallarta every now and then.

Greetings

M.

Mostly Chuck suffering from spam attacks and not having enough tools to stop 'em... But now that I am around daily, we can hold things at bay. Spammers also seem to have given up on us for a while. Let's hope it stays that way for some time.

Greetings

M.
