The distance people travel
Post
by flyawayplus4 » Sat Dec 24, 2005 4:24 pm
I am always amazed at the distance people travel to go to their fav. vacation spot.
For many to travel to Puerto Vallarta they must drive hours to get to the city their flight is leaving from. Maybe they have a night in a Hotel the night before their flight leaves .
When I was in PV I met quite a few people that were in PV from Holland and England. A long 15 plus hour flight but they all said it was worth it.
Says something about Puerto Vallarta does it not?
Hope Santa finds those that are vacationing in PV.

We are lucky.. one hour drive to airport, and a 3.5 hour flight. Not too bad.

depending on the airport 30 minutes to Des Moines, 4 - 5 hrs (depending on the weather and road conditions) to Minneapolis, Chicago, or Kansas city... and from there anywhere from 3.5 hrs to 5 hrs or longer if we have to go thru Phoenix or Houston.... but it is well worth it, even after America West can royally FUBAR things....

We drive 4 hours to the departure city in the winter (snow, ice, blizzards....), get a hotel for the night then fly out in the morning for a 5 hour flight. All very worth it!

We are a half hour drive from the Toronto airport then a 5 - 5 1/2 hr flight to PV . We live on the major street in Toronto (Yonge St-turns into Hwy 11 -longest street in the world !) and there are many easily recognizable buildings from the air . We live on the flight path to the airport . I can pick out locations within walking distance from our home as we are approaching the landing. I always kid Laurie and tell her she left the lights on in the condo.

40 minutes taxi to YVR then 1.5 hour flight to SF then after 60 minutes a 3 hour flight to PVR on Alaska Jan 14th. No direct flights that aren't charters. No charters when staying for more than 2 weeks (6 weeks for us).
Also the price is 50 % higher when staying longer than 4 weeks. Alaska says they have to compete with the charters on the shorter stays.

Hey Tom
Since we retired in 2002, the longest stay has been 2 months. This year we are economizing a bit because we just spent 5 weeks in Europe. Next year we are going to try a little longer and maybe part of the time off the beachfront. We did that on Fca Rodriguez in 2003 and really enjoyed it. We missed the ocean breezes but the rooftop dipping pool compensated. Plus we got to know our Mexican neighbours.

It's a 12 hour drive for us to get to Winnipeg (the first 300 kms on a gravel road!) and then approx. a 4 hour flight - but worth every second once you get to PV!!

I have never been to PV but will be going in March. It is a 45 minute drive to the airport, and then a 2 hour and twenty minute flight from Houston to PV.

Usually a 40min drive to YVR then about 4.5hr flight on a charter or 6-7hrs on connecting flights. But this time we are driving 3hrs to Seattle and flying non-stop on the way down and have a stopover in LA on the way home and the only reason we are doing it this way this time is because we are saving over $500.
