4 night stay best restaurant advice

Post by pvgemini » Sun Nov 09, 2008 6:28 am

First time user of pv.net-- very intriguing.
Have been to Vallarta many times over the past 25 years, and always stay in a house on the hill above Guadalupe church.
In early March, will stay for only 4 nights, with 3 other married women in their 40's.
I would like recommendations for restaurants for dinner. Usually we go to Cafe de Olla, Barcelona Tapas, Archie's Wok, Daquiri Dick's. Any other spots that we should not miss? Moderately priced, fun places. We do not need a view.
Thank you!!

Welcome to the board and it it sounds like you may have plenty of advice to offer also. For eating out, my wife and I go mainly for Mexican seafood. Some of our faves are Oscar's, at the west end of the Rio Cuale island, La Palapa on Los Muertos beach, La Paloma across from the Rotunda by the Sea, and El Andriego near the north end of the malecon. Last year we tried the Cuban place on the malecon, I think it's La Bodeguita or something like that, and it had very good seafood. Also my 1st ever mojito.

La Bodeguita del Medio

Also try:
Banana Cantina
Cafe Bohemia
Barrio Sur
Tacos al Pastor (next to Cafe de Olla)
Asaderos
Joe Jacks Fish Shack
Hacienda Allemagne
Majahuitas

I second the above list, And although I've never been there I hear that Teatrolimon is a great place as well.

I notice that Mahuitas is still closed. Tacos Pancho is the place next to Cafe de Olla.

Teartrolimon is fabulous but not inexpensive.

Yes, do add Red Cabbage to your list. It's really a must. Take a cab, and if your Spanish isn't so great, write down the address to hand to the driver. Take the cab both ways. Don't be tempted to walk.

Another great spot esp. for lunch is Los Caprichos, a tapas place up on the hill behind the cathedral. I'll look up the address if no one else chimes in.

Did anyone say Mariscos Polo? I'll look up that address too....

If I went nowhere else I would go to those three.

Thank you for the advice. I actually already have Mariscos Polo on my list; I have the address Fran Madero 376. We always eat at the other place too, on Iturbide y Miramar, as it is just down the street from the house where we are staying. They know us so well now, we go there and order the food, and they deliver it to our front door 20 minutes later!! We enjoy calamari, Spanish tortilla, and chicken skewers with fresh bread and aioli! Goes down nicely with a margarita, while watching the sunset!

Try El Brujo's. Any of the Mexican seafood joints out by the Marina or out past the Home Depot, are also good. I think the are called Marichco's

Mauricio's is on the road to Ixtapa.

Add to you list:
Portabello (italian food) in the Marina
Kaiser Maximillian
Tony's La Choza (in Mismoyola village) great jungle setting.
Tino's (in Pitillal)
Encanto

If I had to go with one

Post by lanhawk » Thu Jan 29, 2009 9:48 pm

If I had to go with one restaurant it would be teatrolimon. We went there last year around the seond week of April and we were the only ones there and Bruce did an outstanding job of making us feel welcome. He was closing up the place for a little vacation at the end of the week so we just made it and I thank my lucky stars we did. Its cost a little more but I think its worth every penny. One of the best places in Puerto vallarta bar none. Bruce you rock.

El Brujo for sure. I'm surprised no one mentioned El Arrayan, We had a great dinner there.
