El Dorado by Boca Bento
Post
by garyrbeck » Mon Apr 19, 2010 1:47 am
Mark down this 50+ year old establishment now under great guidance of Stewart Haverlack of Boca Bento fame formerly on Basilio Badillo and in Mismaloya. He and partners will be open for a month more, then close and do some needed renovation keeping the 'legend' that it is. Had a tasting there and then today 4 of us dined there and each course was wonderful. Be aware the portions are large and we over-ordered...doggie bags with no dog at home! Add to your list. Daytime beach palapa for 50 pesos includes a National drink or nonalcoholic for me and others. Stay all day, have lunch, people-watch on the best beach in PV.

What sort of food is he serving. Boca Bento was a little too Asian for the hubby's taste (a meat and potato's type of guy) he loved the fish and the burgers at the old El Dorado.

Nope, wrong place. The menu is an expanded version of his last 2. Not meat and potatoes so take him elsewhere. 3 of us did have the chipotle honey glazed meaty pork ribs on mustard potato salad [Peruvian] but he might not care for that. It is Asian/Latino fusion and it really works. Maybe Brasil?

No, really not so much meat and potatoes in the literal sense, but a man with a really simple palate. If they have a simple fish dish he might go for that. No he hates Brasil. Thanks for the answer.

They are opening again pretty soon, after many months of refurbishment. I don´t know how it will look like but if they do it right it might be a fantastic place given its location and the reputation of Bocabento

Yes, it is supposed to open fairly soon. BTW, 'by BB' has been dropped so name back to ED. Hope to sample new menu there beforehand.

Yes, they have a 2 week delay from their publicized soft opening date... In Mexico you never know with the contractors!
