We've been there too. It was cute - but I nearly broke a tooth on the well-frozen banana. We used to go to Chili's for lunch a couple of times during our stay and Chocobanana is just across the street so that was perfect for dessert.

eat at choco

Post by pop&fresh » Mon Sep 04, 2006 1:47 pm

one of my favorite places to dine

8upstairs half decent view service is a little more relaxed instead of the stiff upper lip service at other places the food is something else very different flavours

nice drinks friendly service family friendly and a hell of a good menu

mike and debbie have been aound pv for a little while now they know the area and are quick to lend a hand or advice

my opinion on this restaurant!!!!!!!

4 out 5 stars

Not at all. It's at the corner of Amapas and Pulpito. Do you know the area around the Tropicana Hotel? It's over that way. The restaurant upstairs is Banana Cantina.

I think that's probably an out-dated picture. I imagine they built right over top of it.

I agree with ellen the photo must be out of date..
I found a few shots taken inside the banana cantina but none of the exterior (with the choco banana) which I would love to see.
Not sure if I can link this site here...if not sorry and someone can change it.. please.. :)

Banana Cantina

Post by Jennybean » Tue Sep 05, 2006 3:14 am

The reason you're probably having difficulty picturing it is that it only opened last fall. They were completing construction when I was there Oct/Nov. and they opened sometime shortly after I left.

It is upstairs from the original ChocoBanana locale, which has also reopened (it was closed for quite some time).

If you're on Los Muertos beach, come straight up a block on Amapas from the sand, beside the El Dorado condos. It's right on the corner, can't miss it.

Thank You Jenny..
I continued searching ....

There is a wonderful story behind the Banana Cantina....
I was thrilled to find the news article below..

A story of love for a child ..love for the child's Mother...illness..
set backs ..Community helping out.
Heartwarming read. :)
I know one place that is on my must do list next trip to Puerto Vallarta.

Banana Cantina

Post by north » Tue Sep 05, 2006 3:39 am

Actually, Choco Banana and Banana Cantina are directly across the street from Condos La Palapa. Or, they are across the street and several doors to the south from the Emperador. Or, they are across the street and towards the beach a door or two from the Kit Kat. Or, they are kitty corner across the street from Condos El Dorado.

Sylvia, I just read the article you attached and welovepv is right - it's a great story. I probably wouldn't have made a point of going to that restaurant but I will now for sure. Thanks for starting the thread.

Staying at the Tropicana, believe me, you'll walk right past it about a million times.
