I would appreicate any recommendations you have for someone who does Home Inspections. We want to have one done before we purchase a house.

You should make sure that your home inspector is properly licensed by an accredited institution. Also, check the resume of your home inspector. It's not enough just to have a license -- they should have actually performed several inspections in your area. And if the inspector can't find or produce a legitimate ID or license, it's a big warning flag and you should not go with them! In addition, you should know what to expect from a home inspection. Check out http://accurateinspections.com/toexpect.html to find out what you can expect. Also, you should be present at the inspection so you can see exactly what the inspector finds that you may need to repair or upgrade to make sure that your house is safe and that it also maintains its value. A home inspection is not a simple procedure. Depending on the size and complexity of your house, it can be quite a serious affair. From checking fireplaces to water heaters to air conditioning to roofing to flooring to radon levels (which, if high, can cause cancer), home inspections are vital to your safety and security. Good luck!

Somehow, Mike, using an inspector supplied from the fellow who is trying to sell me the house, does not sound safe. Chuck... 8)
