Vallarta Bulletin Board Netiquette & Rules
What is Netiquette? Simply stated, it's network etiquette - that is, the etiquette of cyberspace. And "etiquette" means "the forms required by good breeding or prescribed by authority to be required in social or official life." In other words, Netiquette is a set of rules for behaving properly online in this case on the this Bulletin Board.
When you enter any new culture - and cyberspace has its own culture - you're liable to commit a few social blunders. You might offend people without meaning to. Or you might misunderstand what others say and take offense when it's not intended. To make matters worse, something about cyberspace makes it easy to forget that you're interacting with other real people -- not just characters on a screen, but LIVE HUMAN characters.
So, partly as a result of forgetting that people online are still real, and partly because they don't know the conventions, well-meaning cybernauts, especially new ones, make all kinds of mistakes.
This short document is intended to help you adapt to this new activity with the least possible harm (hehehehe ). Please read carefully and any other questions or comments, please contact the list owner, info further down:
Intro: The purpose of this Bulletin Board is to promote the polite and free exchange of ideas and information regarding Vallarta in general, as well as to foster a community of like-minded participants.
Please use the following list to determine what you need to do:
1. When you join the Bulletin Board (BB), read the messages on the different sections to get a feel for what are common questions, the subject in each sub-section and what topics are deemed off-limits. This is commonly referred to as lurking. When you feel comfortable then start posting. Keep in mind that the posts should be appropriate for the particular category. So for example, personal contact postings should be limited to the Personal contacts subsection. We'll move or erase posts we deem are not well placed.
2. Regarding business and commercial postings, the Vallarta Bulletin Board (BB) tolerates no spam except on the Ads section (one post per user on the first page and that for the time being), if you need to contact a member with a business proposal or trying to sell something contact must be done by direct e-mails. Those who do not follow this rule will be either banned or warned once, at the administrators discretion.
3. Please take into account the general netiquette where CAPS MEANS YOU ARE SHOUTING! and avoid posting messages that are only in caps, unless you are shouting... in which case please act as civil as possible to avoid being banned from the group.
4. Keep in mind that this BB has members from many countries. Don't assume that they will understand a reference to TV, movies, pop culture, or current events in your country. If you must use the reference, please explain it. Don't assume that they understand geographical references that are local or national.
5. Don't join this list just to post inflammatory messages - this will upset not only the administrators but the members too and you will lose access to the BB.
6. Think before you post. Never assume a thread or response can be removed easily.
7. Resist the temptation to "flame" (ie: attack another member) others on the BB. Remember that these discussions are "public" and meant for constructive exchanges. Keep things clean, and refrain from demeaning or slandering fellow participants or third parties. Treat the others on the list as you would want them to treat you.
8. We reserve the right to edit or remove posts and deny participation for non-compliance. If a post is edited or removed for violating our guidelines, no explanation will be given on the Board; however, you may contact the Board Administrators (webmaster at puertovallarta.net and please include your username in the email) with any questions.
9. Do not post links to sites that are our competition, if linking to a hotel or tour/activity, please check it isn't already included on this site, if so please include a link to the section within this site. I reserve the right to edit links posted on the Bulletin Board.
10. Do not include links on the footers of your posts unless they are to your personal sites (unless it is a business related to toursim and/or Puerto Vallarta) and if they are not a competitor site. Limit your footers to two lines please.
11. This BB is family oriented, so postings that are adult-oriented, questionable or outright illegal will not be accepted, those that post them will either be warned once or banned immediately, please be careful.
12. Once you are banned from the forum, you are banned for good, no e-mails, no messages, no letters, nothing will revert a ban, so please act civil on the board and heed any warnings issued by moderators and/or admin.
Please do not reply to suspected trolls or inflammatory posts. Instead, immediately report them to the Board Administrator (webmaster at puertovallarta.net - please include your username in the email) by e-mail or private message.
Kind regards
Mogens

Re:Bulletin Board Netiquette
Sounds ok to have some kind of order but let us not take the fun out of this board eh?
Re:Bulletin Board Netiquette
Sure, no doubt about that, it's mostly the obnoxious ones we need to look out for and the spammers, most people have a great time here and I think we can sure keep it that way without much hassle.
