This is an amazing spot, less than 1.5 hours from PV. In the middle of the mountains, with fantastic views, you can walk around a mining town and have lunch in the 3/4 fantastic restaurants (for such a small town). And escape from the heat of PV.
Also, the beaches in Costa Alegre, try to go one day, take your picnic, and enjoy virgin sandy beaches many miles long... like being in an island with nobody around.

San Sebastian
We did the drive (w/friends) from Puerto Vallarta this past May ('11), and much-enjoyed the mountain views along the way, and those within San Sebastian as well.
Wow, those narrow, up & down, twisting & turning cobblestone streets in San Sebastian -- they were sure some fun!!
After checking out sights, we did lunch at Comedor La Lupita, a restaurant that caught our eyes when we first came into town. It turned out to be a great choice, we had a wonderful meal -- several selections, each so well-prepared and presented, tasty, and reasonably-priced, with such welcoming and accommodating service.
One of a couple "off-the-beaten-path" trips from Vallarta for us, and sure enjoyed!!

Restaurant choices in San Sebastian.
kcowan .... couldn't agree more!! It's such a small place, but has so many "eateries" that look so welcoming and enticing to try!!
Not sure what we would do with a re-visit -- there's only so much time, and so many choices!! Like you said - "what an amazing little town!"
Do know, we would like experience more!!

Getting to San Sabastian
How does one get to San Sabastian? Do you take a private tour, or organized tour? Do you fly or drive? I would love some information on how to get there and by what mode of transportation. Sounds like a great trip.
Re: Getting to San Sabastian
I've been reluctant to reply to your post, as we did a road trip with friends, in a private vehicle, but there are several companies offering day-trips - offering travel to/back, with a meal while there, and etc.wyoblu wrote:How does one get to San Sabastian? I cannot recommend one, because we have not used this method. But an internet 'search' of 'San Sebastian del Oeste' will provide some good sources for such information (vallartainfo, vallartaonline, and etc.).
Hope this helps a little. Good luck!!
